Our Verdict
The trick here is to find the lowest denomination cards, buy two of them, and get $10 off. Burger King is the best with $10 denomination cards (although sometimes they haven’t been activating properly at DG for some reason according to reports). Buy two for $20 and get $10 off – that will yield a 50% discount.
Other good options $15 Chili’s and Taco Bell gift cards; after the $10 discount it lands up 33% off. And two $20 Domino’s cards will be 25% off after the discount.
Personally, I’m going to give this offer a miss since I don’t like dealing with small denom cards, but could be a great deal if you’re willing to handle that.
Hat tip to Slickdeals
Management told me that Dollar General took the $10 Burger King gift cards off the shelf. I think they were losing too much money on them.
60 Burger King for one transaction with American Express gift card (AMEX bought from Walgreens $500 with Chase Freedom 5x cash back free fee)
bought 24 cards and 3 cards wouldn’t activate and they refunded back to me the cost of the 3. going to 2 other stores tonight to resell all of these.
Where will you resell all gift cards ?
Tried four cards at a time. It worked. Took off $5 from each $ 15 card. The chilli’s card is $ 25 min. It doesn’t wrok on the brinker’s card which is $ 15. Also it will only work on the cards listed in the ad. There is no limit on how many you can buy.
Thanks for the DPs
Do I need a loyalty card for this? Does Dollar General even have a loyalty card?
Also, the ad says just for the cards shown in the ad. My ad shows Cabela’s, Taco Bell, Domino’s, Facebook, TGI Friday’s, Chili’s, and Burger King. Is everyone else seeing the same ones?
Nice find. Thanks Chuck
Anyone know if you can purchase multiple per transaction? For example, purchase 4 cards and get $20 off? There doesn’t seem to be a limit mentioned.
The only limit is how many they have in stock. I bought 4 at the DG closest to me. They didn’t have any more of the Taco Bell or Burger King cards. Other people on slickdeals are reporting that they have bought up to 20 in one transaction.
That is a good point, I’m not sure.
If that works, it could be worth the hassle since I’d buy dozens in one transaction.
