Amazon Prime Members Now Receive Perks At Whole Foods (10% Off Sale Items + Weekly Deep Discounts), Available Nationwide

Update 06/26/18: This program is now available nationwide!

Earlier this month Whole Foods ended its loyalty program, it was speculated that this would be replaced with discounts for Amazon prime members. That has now come to fruition, Amazon prime members will receive the following:

  • 10% off sale items (excluding alcohol)
  • Weekly deep discounts on select best-selling items

For now the program is only available at all stores across Florida, but it will expand to all stores nationwide this summer. To take advantage Prime members will need to download the Whole Foods market app and then scan this app when checking out. They give the example of the following deals that will run from May 16th until May 22nd:

  • Sustainably-sourced, wild-caught halibut steaks: $9.99/lb., save $10/lb.
  • Organic strawberries: 1 lb. for $2.99, save $2
  • Cold brew coffee at Allegro coffee bars: 50% off 16 oz.
  • KIND granola: 11 oz. bag 2/$6
  • 365 Everyday Value sparkling water: 12-pack case buy one, get one free
  • Magic Mushroom Powder: 50% off
  • Plus, an additional 10% off hundreds of sale items throughout the store

Recently Amazon increased the price of prime from $99 to $119 annually.

Yeah, I thought I’d give it a try. The WF near me had instruction sheets and everything on how to take advantage of the discount. Did my usual shopping of fresh veggies, seasonal fruit, bread. Total $51. Savings 40 cents. That’s pretty much still Whole Paycheck if you ask me. Saving 10% of something that is 15% cheaper elsewhere isn’t really saving.

for ex.. Shoprite has blueberries for 2/3.00 this week or 1.99 w/o coupon.Cantaloupes are 1.99 each. Another chain has 24 pack spring water 1.99. Whole Foods is like Starbucks. For rich/sustainability monied folks of which cost is of no concern. BTW my Walmart has a 6 pack of raisins (great value) for 1.00. They are no different from Whole foods.

I wouldn’t do all my household shopping at Whole Foods, but if you have one convenient to you, there are a few solid deals to be had each week. Yesterday, I grabbed an air chilled chicken for $1.99/lb. This week, they have wild caught sockeye salmon ($13.99/lb) for less than Ralphs ($15.99/lb) and “Animal Welfare rated” (for whatever that’s worth) baby back ribs for $4.99/lb. They also have Kettle brand potato chips at 2 for $4, which you could combine w/ ibotta to make 2 for $3.25.

Does this work for primary Amazon Prime member or everyone in Prime account?

You link your Whole Foods app with your Amazon account so if you are Prime, regardless of being the main member or not, it should work.

Not really, at least not yet anyway. Whole foods still caters to an entirely niche market.

With the other stuff on the list it looks like they are trying to cater to people who cook food (ie normal), rather than people than live off odd supplements and frozen specialty food (the past regular sales items)

For the week of 5/16/18-5/22/18:

Organic blueberries, cantaloupe, watermelon
Ears of corn for 22 cents, artichokes
15% lean ground beef @ 3.59/lb
Bone in chicken breast @ 2.69/lb
Pork tenderloin @ 7.19/lb
A bunch of seafood.
Sauce mixes
Veggie and tortilla chips

Multiple proteins, fruits and some vegetables and lunch snacks. That’s covers a regular weekly shopping trip, more than a niche for odd condiments or unusual ingredients.

For those who don’t know, since Whole Foods is owned by Amazon, you get 5% cashback with an Amazon credit card (3% if not a Prime member)

I wonder if they take Amazon gift cards? Though since I don’t shop there, it’s kind of a moot point for me.

Whole Foods doesn’t take Amazon gift cards. But you can buy a Whole Foods GC at Amazon with an Amazon GC.
