Update: Uber Eats has introduced a new 15% service fee, for more information on that new fee click here.
Reader Nick C has noticed some new fees on UberEats:
- All orders include a 10% service fee
- Additional $2 fee is applied to orders under $10
This was found on all restaurants in the Philadelphia, the delivery fee remains the same but there is also an option to pool with nearby orders to save $2 on delivery. It looks like these new fees are only in selected areas as of now. Click here for UberEats promo codes.
The new service fee is ridiculous. That’s the last time we use Uber Eats. When the order is wrong they don’t refund it either.
Our Service Fee is 15% of the subtotal and that’s just unheard of! I asked the restaurant and they do not get that money (they understood it goes to the driver), and I asked the driver and she does not get that money. Just very unacceptable. Will definitely not use uberEats again and will discourage others.

This just about made the AMEX Platinum Uber credit that much less valuable.
Order Total: Cost of food + 15% + Delivery Fee + Tip (if one is so inclined). A $20 buck order can (and probably will) hit $30+
Mine does not have a % service fee, it is instead a flat $2 (maybe it varies) but if there are people delivering other orders it takes the $2 off automatically. You never have to tip on uber eats (noone does).
There were some times where this was cheaper but now with the additional fees doordash is the cheapest with $15 orders and dash pass.
On a grander scale, our crazy tipping culture is ruining local economies. Most locals in mexico detest eating these days thanks to restaurants/servers expecting “tourista” rate tips.
Used be that you tip based on the service you get. But now, you are shamed into tipping no matter.
Tips for a cup of coffee? Since when? And now frontier is taking this to a whole new level with tips for FAs.
Just say NO!
No $2 fee for under $10 In NYC
Might be specific region
I just took a trip from AZ to VA, and here in VA I don’t see any new fees, but what I do see are coupons you can apply to your order listed on the main page. For example, when browsing local restaurants, I see hooters highlighted with 3.99 delivery AND an instant coupon to save $8 on an order of $30 or more. Sorry if this is old news, but I’ve never seen this in AZ before.
They also increased the delivery charge. A restaurant that i frequent had a delivery charge of <5$ . A week or 2 back i noticed , its $8.50. Last week i noticed the delivery charge went up to $24 because "no one was nearby to deliver the order".
Not seeing this in Seattle. I can report the same as Elias. I’ve been using UberEats a lot lately because I always get four choices of restaurant, each with waived delivery fee (normally $3.99 minimum in my area) for sharing a courier with someone who already placed an order. Four choices is enough for me to be happy, and if it’s not, five minutes later they refresh.
Meh. My Amex plats are up for cancellation shortly (1yr) so I don’t ever seen myself using Uber eats again anyway. I’d rather go out if I’m not cooking for myself.
