This may not be well known, but it’s possible to set an alert with Cashbackmonitor to tell you when a shopping portal or a group of portals increases their rate to a given threshold. For example, you can set up to get an alert when any mileage shopping portal goes above 3x for Apple.com or you can set up an alert when the United portal goes above 3x at Apple.com.
You can have the alerts show up only in your Cashbackmonitor message box, or you can have them sent to your via email.
To use this feature you’ll need to create an account with Cashbackmonitor or else link your Facebook, Google, or Twitter account. Then, click on your name in the top–right and choose the Manage My Alerts tab. Then input which store you want to follow and which portal or group of portals you want to follow, and you’ll get an alert when there’s a trigger.
This is especially useful for someone who has a ton of purchases to make on a given site, and just waits for the right time to pounce, e.g. a contractor on Lowes.com. It’s also very helpful if you have an Amex/Chase Offer to use and are waiting for an increased portal to buy or if you have a large purchase to make and are waiting for the right time to buy.
Cashbackmonitor has some other useful features, including the Best Rate History which I use all the time. I’ve used the portal alerts in the past as well.
Hey there Chuck & Will, do you guys have a comprehensive list of which cashback sites are verified to have worked, while topcashback seems to list so many and i’m not sure if half of them are legit?
You mean cashbackmonitor?
Will Dell allow you to take advantage of multiple discounts with one purchase:
1. 10% student discount
2. 10% military discount
3. 3% Dell Rewards
Obvious discounts you can do:
1. AmEx 10% Dell credit
2. purchase through portal
Please hyperlink Cashbackmonitor. Thanks Chuck!
Done
Do you find any advantages to CBM vs. Evreward?
Also, this is perfect for Amex Plat holders who have a 6 month window for Saks. Saks sometimes goes to 10% or more.
For $ome rea$on they stopped showing Active Junky, which is the highest CB for quite a few merchants. Lost some trust with me.
Another one they don’t show is Coupon Cabin, which I always end up manually checking. And sometimes I’ll use/compare with cashbackwatch.com, because it’ll show sites that CBM doesn’t.
I think Cahbackholic is the biggest / most comprehensive alternative. But I would not be surprised if they also omit some portals due to affiliate payments
Wow! I was literally just thinking about this yesterday. Was thinking of making some Valentine’s Day purchases (okay, flowers) and wanted to be sure I was getting the best rate available and had to manually search each retailer. Coincidentally, ebates had increased rates – an alert notification would have been very helpful and i was thinking of looking into those option s but it fell off my radar when i got home!
Appreciate the positive feedback @Jeff and @Chuck for posting this
Another good use for this is if you have an Amex offer for a certain merchant and you are waiting for an optimal portal payout to stack with it. I just set up a few alerts for Amex offers that I have. Thanks!
Yep, that’s when I’ve used it in the past. I’ll add a note.
Haha, nice! Glad my curiosity led to others learning something helpful.
This is a great tip. Very useful for items I have to buy that aren’t urgent, but I know I will buy eventually (on sale or when the portal rate is favorable).
