The Offer

Direct link to offer

  • Bank of America Spirit Airlines card is currently offering the following bonuses:
    • 15,000 miles after first purchase
    • Additional 15,000 miles & $100 statement credit after you make $500 in purchases within the first 90 days

Card Details

  • Card earns 2x miles on all purchases
  • Annual fee of $59 waived first year
  • 5,000 anniversary bonus Spirit miles when you spend at least $10,000 in purchases annually and pay your annual fee
  • Spirit miles don’t expire as long as you make at least one purchase per month on your Spirit credit card, usually they expire within three months unless you have any earning activity
  • I’ve included the award chart below, which can be accessed directly by clicking here. You’ll notice that having the credit card allows you to take flights starting at 2,500 miles + taxes

Our Verdict

Previous best offer was 30,000 miles or 15,000 miles + $100, this is either $100 or 15,000 miles better depending on which offer you compare to. There is also an inflight offer for 35,000 miles + an additional 1,000 miles just for applying. The main attraction people have to this card is the off peak awards that price at as low 2,500 miles per flight. Some people also report not a lot of flights are available off peak, so also keep that in mind.  These off peak awards can make this card attractive to some people, but make sure you’re familiar with Spirit’s fees and  read these things everybody should know about Bank of America cards before applying. This has been added to our list of the best credit card bonuses.

I’ve been sitting on 30k miles for 2 years now with no use. If anybody has some use for them, let’s chat if interested.

I had the same issue with Sprint miles redemption. Had 25K miles for a year but did not find any useful redemption.I closed the card and let it expire..

I have yet to open the card, but am traveling to Orlando soon. Correct me if I am mistaken, but if you dont have enough points you cannot redeem points. Meaning you have to either pay in USD or Miles, not both?

Dang. Had been interested in the card, so I signed up for the 36k offer on a flight last Friday. Would much rather have this offer with the $100 statement credit. I wonder if there’s a way to still get It.

Though the in-flight offer only required a purchase as opposed to the $500 spend.

The plus side is the $100 statement credit. The downside is you have to fly Spirit to use the miles.

Anyone been approved for Bank of America recently? I applied a couple of weeks ago while 3/24 and got denied for too many cards opened

Do you have any other accounts with them?

The data points for approvals seem so random but I’ve heard BoA puts heavy consideration towards existing relationships with them.

If you book cheap off-peak awards using Spirit miles, is it still possible to pay to upgrade to the big front seats, or do they force you to sit in randomly assigned seats in the back of the plane with no option to upgrade? If so, must you pay cash to upgrade, or is it also possible to use miles to upgrade? Any idea what the rough cost (in cash or miles) to upgrade to a big front seat would be if you are traveling within one region? Just trying to gauge if I should ever bother considering Spirit again… it’s been many years since I’ve used them, but the big front seats can definitely be a good deal in certain cases…

Seats are separate from the ticket, you can buy a seat on any ticket, and they’re happy to take your money. Seats are only payable in cash, not miles.

As someone whose probably used Spirit miles as successfully as possible, I would highly recommend creating a Spirit account and searching for the award tickets you’d be interested in before applying. On most routes, it’s very slim choices in the “off peak” range of dates you are supposed to get- and further – starting last year they’ve even allowed the Mastercard exclusive rewards to fluctuate to higher amounts of what their own chart says. It’s pretty messy.

The off peak awards being available at all appear somewhat tied to the cash price of the ticket, but it’s generally very hit and miss. If you keep checking, tickets that should be available “off peak” will come and go in availability.

Best bets with these miles is always US Territories, if you can find the off peak redemption, because you only have to pay the taxes and award fees.

Thanks for this tip. I was considering getting the card due to the inflight bonus (and now the bonus posted here since its better), but after logging in and seeing the very low availability of off peak flights (only 6 are off peak for LAX->OAK between now and June, and those are mostly tues/wed), i’ll probably steer clear. (most flights for the LAX-> OAK are 25,000 miles one way)
