[Rumor] Chase To Add Dining/Delivery Credit To Chase Sapphire Reserve, Increase Annual Fee To $550

Update 11/20/19: Apparently as part of the dining/delivery credit being added Chase is also considering increasing the annual fee to $550. Some links are already showing this $550 annual fee, but I believe those are part of tests Chase plans to run. The $550 annual fee source isn’t one of our normal sources, so I’m unsure how reliable this information is but think it’s credible enough to post.

Original post: According to a source familiar with the matter Chase is currently planning on adding a dining/delivery credit to the Chase Sapphire Reserve. This is in response to the Uber credit the American Express Platinum card offers (can also be used on UberEats) and the GrubHub credit the American Express Gold card offers. It isn’t clear how much the benefit will be or who the provider will be, but I would expect a monthly credit of anywhere from $10-$20 with $10 or $15 being the most likely. It also isn’t clear when this benefit would be introduced and if there will be any change to the annual fee or any of the other benefits on this card. When we know more we will be sure to share.

Question for someone who knows about Chase Sapphire cards. I got my CSR last year in mid-May. My statement ends on May 23. I want to try to double dip the $300 travel credit and downgrade the card. I was told that the annual fee gets charged around June 1. I am a bit confused. Do I have 30 or 40 days to downgrade the account AND get the annual fee fully refunded from the June 1 date? Or would the 30 / 40 days be from June 23 when I get the statement with the annual fee on it? Basically I’m wondering if the 30 / 40 days to get the annual fee back in this instance would be from June 1 (when the annual fee is supposed to hit) or from June 23 when I get the statement that has the annual fee on it? Thanks for any insight into this. Rudy

That’s an expensive AF.
That’s as expensive AF.

That would suck as I’ve never used these food delivery apps and don’t want to.

No need for this service for me just to raise the fee another $100.00…..I’d be out

Better give a choice between keeping existing AF or getting the dining credit (and higher AF).

Otherwise it will force many who considered CSR a ‘passively managed’ card to choose between Amex and chase in general.

Hard to say who will lose more customers if chase forces this choice. As those who like Amex’s “waste time or lose money each month” game are already happy campers in the Amex camp and will not come to chase, while those who hate such games will leave chase.

i dont like dining credits and would likely drop the CSR if they force a higher AF

Well that’s unfortunate. I better find a way to use my UR points going forward and just keep the AMEX green I got for the SUB. Why be forced to use credits to bring the fee down to 150 when I can just pay the 150 from the start? Chase is starting to slip and I think 5/24 is killing them

If the AMEX Green offered similar trip insurance as the CSR I would probably just go for the Green and cancel CSR.

If Chase wants to compete with the Amex Gold for dining swipes, then release a dining specific card. Charge $150/year for 4x UR (or more? quarterly 5x?) on dining with an annual dining credit. Don’t restrict it to deliver apps–I’m tired of banks subsidizing and keeping these startups alive when they should be viable on their own.

I appreciate that my CSR gets 3x UR on dining but I have it because I travel and only because I travel. Anything else is a side benefit. Chase, if you’re reading this: please don’t sacrifice the CSR’s standing as *the best* travel card on the market in an effort to make it a jack of all trades card.

Lets hope they grandfather existing, keep the fee the same and include the new benefits – its thanks to us after all that the card is so great.

I don’t use delivery so this would be a $100 increase in annual fee for me! I guess it’s time to spend down my UR points! I will have to totally rethink my credit card strategy – including shopping for another premium card, AND perhaps replace Freedom with Discover, Freedom Unlimited with Citi 2x… ☹️

I will likely drop the CSR if the fee goes up. With the travel credits, it’s a $150 AF effectively, which I can stomach for other benefits like Priority Pass. Raise that to $250 and I’m out. I won’t use the delivery services (have the Amex Gold and I only use the credit for a monthly slice of cheesecake at Cheesecake Factory, haha). This will be a bad move Chase!
