Our Verdict
I really hate promotions like this that reward people more for multiple short stays than longer periods that are only one night stays. Hotel programs generally don’t discount rates for longer stays, so I’m not sure I really understand why they try to incentivize the number of stays rather than number of nights. Current promo is 2,000 points per stay and a 10,000 point bonus per 5 stays/10 nights.
My hubs is a Hilton guy and biz traveler and most often spends only 1 night in each place, so I love these short stay promos.
I hope to see better more competitive ofers soon. I hope this is just whetting our appetite!
Can someone help me understand what the point earning total would be on an aspire card? Let’s say I book a hotel at $100 after second stay. How many pts/$ would I potentially earn?
I hate it too, but they are looking at it in terms of incentivizing an individual choice. Whether your stay is 1 night or 5 nights, you typically make one choice about where to stay.
I don’t think they’re trying to “incentivize” stays over nights. I think they’re trying to give away fewer points, because they know that lots of people won’t bother to “hotel hop” and thus they’ll have fewer stays than nights.
But they’re also “incentivizing high rates”, as the double points part of the promo doesn’t earn you much on cheap stays. People who get reimbursed hotel stays tend to love “multiplier” bonuses, people who stay on their own dime not as much…
I think the end date in the post’s headline needs to be 9/8 instead of 8/8.
Fixed, ty
Says until 8/8 in title, but should be 9/8 (and it’s correct in the body of the article).
