[Closed] Chase to Close Standalone Chase Pay App in Early 2020 (Use Up Your Credits)

Update 2/24/20: App is now closed. Hat tip shiv81

Chase sent out an email blast indicating that the standalone Chase Pay app will be closing down in early 2020. You’ll still see Chase Pay as an option at checkout at various online and in-store merchants which allows you to pay with your Chase cards using your Chase login; it’s just the dedicated app that’s closing down. More details can be found on the website.

We’re closing the Chase Pay app in early 2020. You’ll still find Chase Pay® as a payment option in more of your favorite websites and apps…Keep using the Chase Pay app until early 2020. After that, you can still use Chase Pay when you:
• Shop online or in merchant apps. Look for the Chase Pay button for fast, secure checkout.
• Pay at the pump when you select Chase Pay as the payment method in the Shell, My Phillips 66®, My Conoco®, My76® or Gulf Pay apps.

Be sure to use up any ‘order ahead’ credits that you’ve got from prior offers before then. Presumably we won’t be seeing more of those deals.

What will happen to my credits from ordering ahead? Your credits will expire in early 2020 when we close the Chase Pay app.

Looks like they’re now getting rid of the payment option. Got this email from the Gulf Pay app.

Chase is retiring Chase Pay and beginning January 1, 2021, it will no longer be an available payment method in the Gulf Pay app. But don’t worry, updating your Chase credit card in your Gulf Pay wallet is quick and easy – just follow the directions below!

While Chase Pay continues to be worthless on it’s own, it has been working great in conjunction with the My76 app, to give me 25 cents off per gallon all summer. The promo ends in 5 days, so get in those last minute purchases if you’re interested. I’ve paid as little as $1.19 per gallon back in May, and as much as $1.71 (tonight). Too bad there’s only one 76 in my area.

App is not opening as of today. I have been frequently greeted with a “it’s not you it’s us” error message in my experience with the chase pay app with some ocassional free food opportunities. Not sure if other users faced the same error but it was very common in my experience

Good riddance. I couldn’t even sign up for it: presumably because of the mixed business/personal credit cards. And I tried to sing up several times.

Best thing about the app, besides all the free food, was the NFC access to Chase ATMs with the NFC receiver, but the coolness factor wore off after the first time, mainly because I rarely use my Debit card

– Honestly also much prefer Wells Fargo method of Mobile APP generating a single use PIN that you use with your Debit card PIN to access your bank account to deposit or WD cash at ATMs -not sure if its just WF ATMs

ChasePay used LevelUp’s back end for the food stuff. Just use the LevelUp app, it’s pretty much the same thing.

If you have your chase debit card in Google Pay or Apple Pay, you can also use access the ATM via NFC.

What was the point of yesterday’s $5 first-time user app promo if the app is going to die in less than a year? Is Chase hoping for a desperate last burst of utilization?

Chase Pay was such a dumpster fire. I used as many offers from it as I could but obviously not for anything else. They probably lost quite a bit on it.

Yes, even though SP with MST(LoopT) is far superior to NFC used by then all, SP, GP and Apple pay are all not a “bank” and the most popular mobile pay of all is SBux app.

Yet all this banks got greeedy and wanted a slice of the pie with crappy apps, even BofA licensed the MST from SP but it never launched.

I know that Best Buy was planning on launching a competing pay system.
