Over Black Friday the Citi Expedia’s was increased to 70,000 points, a lot of readers signed up as that can equal $980 in VIP hotels and it was listed on our best credit card bonus page. Unfortunately this offer has been plagued by two issues:
- Some people have only received 50,000 instead of 70,000 points even when a 70,000 point link was used
- Some people saw the 70,000 points post to their account, only for them to be deducted at statement closing
I have no idea what causes either of these two issues as it doesn’t seem to have affected all readers and I’m fairly certain everybody used the same link. You should be able to fix this issue by e-mailing [email protected] with a screenshot of your offer if only 50,000 points posted. If the points posted and were then deducted take a screenshot showing that.

It should also be noted, that Expedia points can not be used on Cabins – even though there is no mention at all about restrictions on what can be used. They show up as ‘ Pay With Points’ friendly in the search, but can’t actually be reserved with points… Making the Expedia points even more worthless.
Re: point deletion
Emailing Citi or calling to start an investigation is pointless. They have no idea what is going on with their IT, as usual, so you’ll never hear anything back.
As others have said, you have to call Expedia and try to explain that what looks like point reservations are a monthly statement deletion of whatever points were earned on the statement before. It may help to tell them to Google this post. But none of them will have any idea what you’re talking about when you set out, even if you used the phone number Citi told you to use for their “dedicated” Expedia team.
The first person on the phone will try to transfer you to Citi. Don’t do that. They’re useless. Ask for a supervisor and insist even though they will try to convince you the supervisor can’t help. The supervisor should be able to understand, but doesn’t have the authority to re-issue that many points. They will have to transfer you to Expedia corporate. The corporate person has the authority and will check with Citi to make sure and then issue the points back.
None of these three people will be able to explain to the other what is going on, so you’ll have to walk them through it all separately. If you’ve had a third statement post, make sure you get your points back from that deletion too.
Like others, my expedia points disappeared on second statement. Expedia seems to insist that that the $2000 spending for the signup bonus must have been made through Expedia and linked to an itinerary there. This is obviously not in the terms and conditions, but they’re not budging on this.
Did anyone else successfully get the bonus points for non-expedia spending (which weren’t taken away in the next statement)?

Okay so while your Citi account might show your Expedia points as 0, check your Expedia.com account. Your Expedia account should still have all the points even if Citi shows 0. I came across same issue but realized this before wasting my time calling Citi.
Did anyone hear back from emailing [email protected] ? It’s been a week for me and nothing back.
Did anyone hear back after emailing them? I used [email protected] but nothing communication back.
No response either. Anyone have any other suggestions?
Spent 3 hours on the phone to get this issue resolved. Looks like you need to call in to get this resolved. Prepare yourself for getting transferred multiple times and being placed on hold for long periods of time.
Were you on the phone with Citi or Expedia?
Expedia
I got the 70K bonus but not the $100 travel credit for incidentals (luggage) in December.
Always something. Life should not be so complicated and stressful. It’s really hard to believe all of these issues are “accidental.”
in addition to them being the only bank to deny all requests to match higher offers within 30 days, i’ve never in my life had a card that is so difficult to read. the numbers are virtually invisible on the card. #illegibleCard #2hard2use4everydaypurchases
The background skews the viewing, but if you angle the card, instead of reading directly above it, you can clearly see the numbers.
