American Express Centurion Lounges To Close Indefinitely On March 21st, 2020

American Express has announced that all centurion lounges will be closing indefinitely starting on March 21st, 2020. The following statement was posted:

As the health and safety of our Card Members and colleagues is our top priority, in light of the spread of COVID-19 we are temporarily closing all The Centurion® Lounge locations, starting on Saturday, March 21, 2020. American Express will provide notice here and on the Amex Mobile App when locations reopen.

We look forward to reopening our lounges and welcoming our Card Members back as soon as we can. We appreciate your understanding during this time and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

William Charles Might want to change the title… their statement says “temporarily”. Definitely not indefinitely. 👨‍⚖️😛

AmEx should have hired  William Charles to take lead on ad copy -its slightly more accurate IMHO.

– Indefinitely conveys the unknown temporarily implies an expected short period of time –

A dog will be temporarily hurt by your actions. “There’s a temporary delay till the coffee is finished brewing”.

You hurt a cat or a woman with your actions it can be indefinitely ~ maybe its an hour or maybe its until….??? LOL

YoniPDX, can we split hairs and go with “indeterminately”? FYI  William Charles

I saw about 15 people in the PHX lounge today. The staff were individually serving the food from the buffet to customers (which I appreciated). I think there will be almost no airline passengers next week as the country goes into virus shutdown, so it makes sense to close the lounges.

Think we could use this to extend our annual fee year end date?

I read that sometimes Amex will offer a credit if you try to cancel or downgrade a card. Someone on another site said they were offered $500 and accepted when they tried to product change to a no annual fee card from the platinum but of course things vary from account to account and even day to day in times like these. Good luck.

Wasn’t me on the other site but spouse tried to cancel the plat and received renew $500 credit as you heard. This about 4 months ago. She called armed with a bunch of legit complaints. Not anywhere near 6 figure spenders either. Annual fee coming up? Call and complain how this closing ruins your vacation and life forever.

Doubtful unless you can prove you were planning to travel through their lounges and completed the travel
