[Expired] Paypal Business Debit Card Offers 2% Cashback On Signature Debit Card Purchases

Update 12/4/20: Deal is back for December 3, 2020 – January 31, 2021. Not sure if it’s targeted or for all users. Hat tip to Stefan

Original Post 4/3/20:

Paypal sent out an email on their business debit card that they will double the cash back rewards to 2% instead of the standard 1%. My understanding right now is that this is for everyone, not targeted. As always, cash back is only earned on signature based transactions, not on PIN-based transactions.

There might be some things like paying taxes which is very cheap when done with a  debit card and can now get 2% cash back which can be a nice profit.

Can you tell if you will get 2% once the transaction posts? Does PayPal send 1099 for the cash back?

NO 1099. You get the cashback pretty fast, within 1-2 days usually.

Found this old thread, seems now CB is taking forever to post. Had a few 2 week old transactions. Not sure what’s up now but knowing the shitshow that is Paypal, I wouldn’t doubt it’s some IT error. I did a few MO grocery transactions and IRS tax payments.

Since the unhappy breakup with Ebay, poor PayPal need to generate revenue anyway they can. PayPalKey brought me back to them, but even that is gone now. Well, mostly. Good luck PayPal.

Anyone know if I can get the cashback from making mortgage payments with this?

I haven’t received my offer yet. A few months ago, I was reviewing my acct and saw something that referred to a “quarterly” cashback offer. This is in line with what I’ve noticed in the yr that I’ve had it. I think it’ll roll out to everyone eventually.

Don’t see this on my card. Greendot unlimited gives 2% too.

You could use this to pay your CONSUMERS CREDIT UNION bill (fee is $3.50)

Does getting the “Business” debit card change your PayPal account at all? e.g., does it convert to a business account that has more fees?

It’s recommended that you just get a new business-specific Paypal account using a 2nd email. You can also convert but it may mess up your existing payments, etc.

“There might be some things like paying taxes which is very cheap when done with a debit card.” But does the tax payment get processed as a signature-based transaction? I don’t think so, therefore no PP reward.

I usually get 1% from payUSAtax at least. I forget which, but one of the 3 usually doesn’t process as debit. However, during the last 2% promo in the summer, I got 2% from all 3 payment processors.

If the tax payment requires a PIN to process the payment then No, it is not a signature transaction & no 2% rewards. I pay my local property taxes by debit card and it does not require a PIN, so it is processed as a “signature” transaction.

Not in all cases. I’ve had a checking account get denied a bank bonus for signature-based debit transactions because it processed as a “PIN-less debit” at Amazon.

a lot of trans get routed as PIN-less debit.
On amazon you have to adjust it to make it “credit”

no. It will be most like PIN-Less debit or Cash-like transaction. One of those won’t earn rewards, i.e. paying Kohl’s Charge with debit card on phone won’t earn 1%

PayPal knows nothing about this campaign it turns out and my card is “stuck” @ 1%..

And I’m sure it’s real because I found another site that talks about this offer: https://dannydealguru.com/2020/07/05/paypal-business-debit-card-spending-bonus-2

If anyone has further info, please share because the 2% is hard to beat!

Plastiq charges higher fee on this card. Also, if you earned the regular 1% on plastiq before, the 2% should work as well. Let us know
