4x Fuel Points on Gift Cards at Kroger-chain Stores

The Offer

The standard earning rate on gift cards is 2x, under this current offer you’ll earn 4x.

Typically, Visa/Mastercard/Amex/Kroger gift cards are excluded.  In the past, there’s been varying reports regarding fixed-denomination Visa/Mastercard/Amex gift cards. The terms seem to indicate that those will earn, but it hasn’t always worked in practice. If those work for you, this deal could be even better.

This offer has been sent out to many people via email and it’s being reported on Slickdeals and Fatwallet. It’s reportedly found in the weekly ad, but I can’t seem to find it. It’s also reportedly being printed out on a flyer at checkout. Be sure to verify that your store has this offer available.

Our Verdict

I don’t have any Kroger or Fry’s nearby, but this sounds like a nice offer. It would be nicer if it applied to Visa gift cards but can be useful even with other gift cards and possibly fixed-value Visa cards. Kroger-brand stores carry tons of gift cards and you should be able to find useful ones. You can even buy gas gift cards and then head over to the gas station and use up the gift card with a discount in-hand via the gas points.

Deal Scenario

Each of the Kroger-owned stores (Kroger, Fry’s, Ralphs, etc.) has different details on the exact structure of the gas rewards program. Here’s one example:

For each 1000 points you get $1 off each gallon of gas, up to 35 gallons. Under the current promo, you can buy $250 of gift cards to earn 1000 points, and then get a total of $35 off your fill-up if you max out on the 35 gallons. And this can be repeated again and again for additional fill-ups.

In this case, you’ll be getting a whopping 14% rebate on the $250 of gift cards, by saving $35 on the gas. At lower amounts of gas it can still be a great deal.
