In 2019 IHG confirmed that variable point pricing (normally called dynamic pricing) was coming, but didn’t provide any additional details. It looks like IHG is now experimenting with dynamic award pricing on some Asian properties. For example the Regent Taipei is showing prices from 30,000 to 60,000 points per night depending on the dates. Due to COVID-19 I imagine it’s going to be difficult to get any meaningful testing data, but I suspect this is more about making sure the likely automated system works than booking numbers.

About time. I’ve posted on a few FB groups how I can pay $25 for a room, but if I try for points+cash its 15,000 points + $20. For lower priced rooms (Asia, South America) their points system is broken. Hope this helps me spend some points. Hope we can travel again soon! #StuckInThailand
Nobody wants to go to a Southwest style pure point pricing. Just give us $7 per 1,000 points used and call it a day. Also, we would be able to use AAA, government/military, etc. discounts off the price.
I always thought southwest’s simple pts:$ exchange being far more usable than other carries that constantly shifts things around (too many BS like this date is blocked out, that route has surcharge, oops we don’t have a chart now because we want to charge whatever we can) and almost always for their own interest?
Just ask the holders of valuable united miles how they think about https://www.doctorofcredit.com/united-removes-partner-award-chart/ if in doubt.
Same thing Hilton does, where 3 nights in a row could cost 24,000 a night and then the 4th night is 27,500 points or something silly on that particular day that week. It feels dishonest
I have not stayed at IHG for a long time.
No spend bonus on credit card.
Expensive point redemptions.
I do not think about IHG.
