The Offer
No direct link to offer, sent out via e-mail. Subject line is ‘<name>, We’re in this together. Here is a limited-time offer.’
- Citi has sent out offers to some cardholders. Some offers are as follows:
- Extra 5% on purchases you make online until 10/30 including restaurants, grocery, and gas ($25 maximum)
- Extra 5% on select categories until 10/30 including restaurants, grocery, and gas ($25 maximum)
- 0% APR on purchases
Our Verdict
It’s not actually an extra 5%, it’s a total of 5% (e.g if you have a cash back card that earns 2% then you’ll get 3% bonus cash back). The maximum is on the bonus cash back, not the total cash back (e.g it won’t be $500 in spend to max it out).
Hat tip to reader Jeff
I had two small dining purchases that posted before my August statement closed on my Citi Double Cash.
I can now confirm the offer is: regular 1% when you spend, 4% bonus and assume I will earn the extra regular 1% when I pay.
$18.51 in dining charges earned me 19 (1%) cents regular spend + 74 (4%) bonus spend.
Got it on a rewards +. 5x ty points on online purchases. Up to 2500 bonus points.
Double Cash gave me 1.99% on purchases through April. This was a PC’ed from AA years ago and retained the World Elite designation should it matter. I can’t think of any safe plays to use 2% money for eight months though so will likely keep paying full balance.
Same offer. Didn’t come through email, but showed up when I logged into the website.
Same here on DC; however, did get 0% for 8 months with Dividend card.
I got this offer on my Citi Double Cash but with more categories than listed:
Restaurants: including takeout meals and curbside pickup orders
Grocery stores: including curbside pickup and online delivery
Gas Stations
Drugstores: including prescription orders made online
Mass Transit & Commuter Transportation Vendors
The marketing language says this about the earn:
“You already earn 2% cash back on purchases: 1% as you buy and 1% as you pay. Now for a limited time, enroll in this special offer and earn an additional 5% cash back, up to $25.”
The fine print says this:
“Earnings associated with this program will equal 4% bonus cash rewards on eligible purchases that will be posted as a credit on your account and may overlap with other special offers in which you are currently enrolled. Total earnings associated with this offer are subject to a maximum of $25.”
I got 25x on utilities on Citi Sears credit card
I didn’t get an email, but when I logged into my Citi account, I got a promotional offer to get 0% APR on new purchases until 4/1/2021. Thank you!
“It’s not actually an extra 5%, it’s a total of 5%” – I don’t think that’s correct. The offer states “You already earn 2% cash back on purchases: 1% as you buy and 1% as you pay. Now for a limited time, enroll in this special offer and earn an additional 5% cash back”
“The maximum is on the bonus cash back, not the total cash back (e.g it won’t be $500 in spend to max it out).” – Not sure what you are trying to say here. You *do* have to spend $500 to earn the maximum cash back of $25, right?
If you read the fine print it seems like it’s only an additional 3% not 5%, but maybe some offers are different to others.
I just posted above but it looks like it will be 6%. My bonus earn was 4% and also earned the 1% for purchase. Should earn an extra 1% when I pay.
Does anyone ever get bonuses on the Double Cash? Never got anything but maybe I’m opted out of emails.
I got 9 months of 0% apt on it
Normally all I get are lower APR offers. But I got targeted for this one on the Double Cash.
I did.
“You already earn 2% cash back on purchases: 1% as you buy and 1% as you pay. Now for a limited time, enroll in this special offer and earn an additional 5% cash back, up to $25, on purchases¹ you make at:
Home Improvement Stores
Home Furnishing Stores
Computer & Electronics Stores
Department Stores
Until 10/31/20”
Interesting it says additional 5%…. so I thought it was 7%…
Looks like it is 6%. Posted my DP above.
