Our Verdict
Reader HB sent in this deal from their Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card. In their case, the offer popped up soon after the annual fee posted, so it might be a new way of them keeping customers with spend offers within the AmEx Offer section, or it might be unrelated. Not sure if this offer is for Marriott cards only or any card. Let us know if you see this offer and on which card. Seems to be only on the Amex Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card, and only targeted to select customers.
We wrote about similar offers on Membership Rewards cards for some bonus points which people began seeing earlier this month – those are valid through February while this cash back deal is only through November.
Read the fine print. You will NOT get $100 statement credit if you use digital wallet, google wallet, Apple wallet, PayPal or any 3rd party payment system!!!
Watch out: you don’t get the $100 statement credit using digital wallet or any 3rd party payment system!!! Read the fine prints.
Is this $1,000 cumulative or a single purchase? Not really clear. I’ve spent $1,077 in multiple transactions but haven’t gotten an email.
Anyone know if the $450 annual fee for the Brilliant card with this offer will count toward $1000 spend ? I assume not. In addition, it said in the terms ” Your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount paid after any statement credit or other discount is applied.” SO with membership renewal, you get $300 credit for Marriott purchases as well as restaurants (exp 8/31) that will not count either. Essentially, I would have to spend $1000 out of pocket in addition to the $450 annual fee with the earnings or spending of $300 credited back to you which will not count. As I see it, it is a spend of $1450 not including any amount under $300 spent at Marriott. The upside is that spend in gas, restaurants, and Marriott do earn 10X points until 10/31
is this cumulative spend until November? or just single transaction? not 100% clear in terms
I asked Amex if charges made by an authorized user on the same account would count and the agent couldn’t give me an answer. Beware and only count charges made by primary just to be sure

Just looked now and received offer on Brilliant. $1000 spend anywhere for $100 credit. Card gets minimal spend and only at Marriott.
Renewal comes in Sept and already received a retention offer, so works for me.
Are you referring to the 100 credit on 1000 spend as the retention offer or did you get a retention offer on top of the 100 off 1000 spend?
Received this offer on my Marriott (former SPG) card, registered and charged a larger purchase. Will see, if & what shows by expiry date. Mine is 12/18/2020. Was offered up to 30,000 points.
Also got it on my brilliant card. Honestly, it’s not enough to keep it if their intention is retention. It helps unless I buy some gift cards, it won’t be utilized.
Got it on my Brilliant card. Thanks
