Capital One Acquires Flight Insurance Company ‘Freebird’

According to Skift Capital One has acquired predictive flight insurance company Freebird. Freebird had previously stopped operating to the public. Previously Freebird offered customers the ability to pay $19 per domestic leg and if your flight was cancelled, you miss a connection or if your flight was delayed by more than four hours Freebird would rebook you on the next non stop flight regardless of the price. It’s unclear if Capital One will roll Freebird into any of it’s current offerings or if this is more of a staff acquisition to build out other similar products.

So Capital One slashed my credit line to come up with enough funds to purchase a flight insurance company?

If offered, this would certainly make the Venture card more competitive.

I’ve heard lots of good reviews about Freebird in the travel community. Hope CapitalOne do not spoil it.
