Google Pay Relaunches With Venmo Like Features & Offers

Google has announced big changes to Google Pay in a relaunch. Part of this relaunch will include the ability to apply for a new digital bank account in 2021 (this has been previously discussed here). The main differences between the old and new Google pay seem to be:

  • Venmo like features to send money to friends & family
  • Offers for completing certain action (e.g paying a friend/splitting a bill)
  • Referral program ($10 for each friend you refer, up to three friends)

How do you pay people? I search for people to pay and it just opens up my imessage with a text link to my referral?
Venmo is easy to use, but this is not.

I used a referral link from the other thread, but I don’t see any mention of the referral in my rewards balance. I also redeemed the Target offer, and I do see those rewards pending. Anyone know how long the referral bonus takes to appear?

Me too! Referred 2 friends and they got their reward instantly. I haven’t gotten anything.

I listed my link in the comments there on 12/16 and just now (12/18) I received my referral bonuses from those that used my link. Looks like it takes about two days, but I don’t know exactly when they made their transaction to qualify. Should be showing in the app now that you need to send $10.

Does this still have the limit of 10 gift cards a month you can add? I’d love to use it to manage my gift cards but I have way too many.

Has anyone been able to find where the moved stored gift cards in this update? They removed the “Passes” tab from what I can tell and now I have no idea how to find my GC’s!

I installed today and was able to find my gift cards and loyalty program cards by clicking the little icon that looks like a credit card at the top of the screen (top right, just to left of your google letter/icon).

Can one receive international payments via google pay, just like one can with PayPal? Is fee structure similar?

One bad thing is that the free instant transfer to bank function is now gone.

I don’t agree. It costs 1.5% fee now, which is horrible.

I just d/l the new version to confirm that’s what you were referring to bc that’s kind of a big feature to just throw away. Would you mind sending them your feedback through the app store? Maybe they’ll bring it back w enough feedback.

They also apparently work with a few other institutions (BankMobile, BMO, BBVA, Coastal Community Bank, some privately-owned bank in Detroit, and a credit union in the Bay Area).

There’s also Dosh-style offers for % back by using your enrolled card at a merchant.
