[Clawback] Annual Fee Refund Credits on Chase Hyatt Legacy Cards

Update 1/22/21: Chase has sent out an e-mail explaining what happened.

Update 1/18/21: The refunds have now been clawed back, apparently they were an error.

Multiple readers reached out about annual fee refund credits on their Hyatt card (legacy version). A lot of people are confused by this credit or thinking that it’s part of a pandemic credit program, but it seems to be related to the conversion that took place on January 11 of the legacy Hyatt card to the World of Hyatt card. Chase is apparently prorating the annual fee, and then presumably a new annual fee will post soon to the card, perhaps on February 1.

Hat tip to readers Mike S and B.

This happened to me, but I did not get an email.
The “credit” never had an actual transaction, only the “clawback”. Very strange.

beware , I charged just over $4,000 for the free night , but apparently this stupid annual fee credit netted with my $4,000+ charged dropped me under the $4,000 level & now chase does not want to give me the free night , that may be what is happening to others as well …

You talked to an uninformed agent.

Your annual fee shouldn’t be included in the 4k spend. Fees, interest, ect. are clearly excluded. The spend was thru 12/31/2020 right? So a credit now shouldn’t do anything. Finally if they back date the credit to dec 2020 but still don’t want to give you the night then I would huca and or ask for a supervisor. If no luck then cfpb maybe.

Look in your hyatt account past activity. Mine shows up there, but hasn’t posted yet as a free night.

The consensus is that the activity is not your free night award but your free night stays credit from your card.

Called Chase today regarding the free night. Chase told me to call back at the end of Jan. because the term said it took 4 weeks to deposit the certificat.

Check your Hyatt my account past activity, the night is posted as Chase Credit Card Night Credits. But for some reason, at least for me, the award was not posted to My Awards yet. Maybe it just takes time for it to post into My Awards section.

That is not according to the conversation I had with Hyatt yesterday. That credit goes to Elite status nights. I was transferred up twice asking about what it was. I was originally calling about the 4k spend free night I completed 12/28, and why it hadn’t increased my free nights after seeing that same credit. I was then told their system is internally states this credit is only for the classic card and not the WOH Card. I told them no such language in the T&C and they also agreed. Ultimately, was told since I received the solicitation by email that I must wait 30 days for the credit to post (also on the T&C). I’m not even sure why they gave me that Elite credit since I never get them. Possible mistake? They switched my product exactly a few days after completing the 4k spend.

4K spend is only open to old Hyatt 75 annual fee hyatt card. However, that might be the reason we are not seeing the free night certificate since Chase is converting every card into new Hyatt card with the annual fee refund debacle.

I have 3 free nights, 1 from 2019 anniversary, 1 from 2020 anniversary, and 1 from the 4000k spend. They all expire 12/31/21. They appear under My Awards

I don’t think it was an error, Chases system for changing card products is just wonky. They said we’d get the new card for the same annual fee so it makes sense.

I even contacted them. And they said that I needed to ask Hyatt rather. Then I asked Hyatt and Hyatt told me they could not track the spending as they just could not. Gonna file a complaint if Chase was still that irresponsible.

I think that’s just the 5 elite nights credit which came when the legacy was changed to the WoH credit card on 1/11/2021
