Update 3/11/21: These two deals (the grocery deal on Freedom cards and the fee waiver on Sapphire Preferred) are continuing beyond March when they were originally slated to end.
Original Post:
A reader lets us know about two offers which are currently available through March:
- Chase Freedom Flex/Freedom Unlimited: Get 5% rewards on grocery spend, up to $12,000 in the first year, on the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited card. This is the same offer which recently expired online, and is apparently available now in branch through March 20. This should come with the standard $200 signup bonus after $500 spend, and it has the extra 5% grocery offer attached as well. This is likely available on the Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited cards. Call your branch to verify these details.
- Chase Sapphire Preferred: Get the $95 annual fee waived for the first year. This offer is slated to be available through March 21 in Chase branches. It comes with the regular 60,000 points signup bonus after $4,000 spend, and hopefully comes with the new $50 grocery credit. If that’s the case, it’s a pretty nice offer, though still falls short of the 80,000 offer we saw a few months ago. Call your branch to verify the details of the offer.
I’ve seen reports of Chase doing increased branch-type services over the phone due to Covid – I wonder if it’s possible to schedule a phone meeting with a banker to apply for these credit card offers as well. Let us know if you have success getting these offers and if you were able to do it by phone.
Can confirm the 60k CSP with waived initial fee is available in branch. Just applied at my local branch & they actually had a sign up in their lobby advertising the offer. Thanks Doc!
My local branch doesn’t have the 50 dollar credit. 😷
It doesn’t show it, but it will come thru.
Signed up in-branch today, the pre-app details screen did include the fee waiver, but not the $50 grocery credit.
Once got to signing the app details, it showed the $50 grocery credit as well to the rep’s surprise.
Can anyone confirm if the offers are still available and if there is an end date to the Freedom or CSP offers?
Applied online and got approved. Waiting for the card to arrive. Can i call the customer service or a branch and request for the annual fee waiver for the first year? Has anyone tried this successfully? Thanks.
Anyone?
I think you are out of luck. You have to APPLY in branch for the AF waiver.
I can confirm that you will not be able to take advantage of the Sapphire Preferred first year annual fee being waived if you try to apply over the phone. I made an appointment in branch and the rep confirmed that 80k bonus points, $50 in grocery credits, and first year annual fee waiver are still being offered.
I tried applying over the phone and then applied via the website and was approved. I sent a Secure Message and they told me they can’t waive the annual fee.
Anyone know how long the 80000 point and annual fee waiver is going to last for?
I’m out of the country for the next few months. Is there any way to get the in-branch offer via phone?
Hi, I went to apply for chase sapphire preferred card in store but the banker told me they didn’t get the option to apply for the card for me. I had applied for CSR when it first came out and then did a product change to freedom card. Does anyone know why the banker couldn’t apply for the card?
Scheduled a phone meeting with a banker, and was told these offers are not available via phone.
Any idea if the increased bonus card is showing up today?
Has anyone had any success trying to getting the $95 annual fee waived with a branch call instead of going into the branch?
If you apply in branch to get first year free, can you still use the referral code from a friend/relative for them to get the referral bonus?

Looks unlikely but doesn’t hurt to try. Please post your experience.
