The American Express Gold card offers a $100 airline incidental credit each year, a benefit which is ending this year of 2021. In order to be eligible for the 2021 $100 benefit, you need to have an account open by February 3rd and have your airline selected.
Per the FAQ on bottom of this page:
For American Express Gold Card Members who opened accounts before February 4, 2021, the $100 Airline Fee Credit will no longer be available after December 31, 2021. Card Members who opened accounts on or after February 4, 2021 are not eligible for the Airline Fee Credit.
All American Express Gold Card Members who opened accounts prior to February 4, 2021 and have selected an airline for the Airline Fee Credit benefit will still be eligible to receive statement credits for eligible airline purchases made through December 31, 2021.
Sounds like even existing Gold cardholders need to have their airline selections by that date. It does default to what you used last year, so that shouldn’t be an issue for existing cardholders.
AmEx launched a new $10 monthly Uber credit which begins this month, February, as a replacement for the $100 airline incidental credit. 2021 is the one year which you can get in on both credits, but again, only those who already have the card and select an airline by February 3rd will get both benefits.
There’s a good signup bonus offer currently on the Gold card of 60,000 + $250. Hopefully if you apply now and get approved right away it’ll be possible to have your airline selected by February 3rd (see these data points).
Hat tip to Chase-ing UR points
I think you are misreading the wording on selecting the airline credit. It says you need to (1.) open the card prior to February 4,2021, and (2.) select the airline. It does not say you need to select the airline before Feb 4, otherwise the wording would have been “All American Express Gold Card Members who opened accounts and selected an airline prior to February 4, 2021 . . . . “
I got approved for the card yesterday. however i did not chose airline yesterday ? is that an issue ?
Try choosing it now and let us know how it goes
Do we have any updates on this
I just signed up yesterday and had the option to choose the credit, but didn’t, because the text said I had until the end of the year to do so. When I login now, the automatic option is gone but there is text that says I can reach out to Amex CS and they will pick it for me.
I pulled the trigger yesterday since this offer is too good, even without the airline credit. Between the plat, gold, and bofa premium rewards I now have $400 in airline credit to pick from… I still haven’t picked an airline at all since I don’t know if I’m traveling yet this year. (The plat is a new as well.)
apply yesterday and was DECLINE,have 5 years history, and 5 chase card, this is my FIRST time apply AE,sh!t,call and they said open/close too many cad,not ture,,,
If I am a current gold card member does this mean if I don’t choose my airline by Feb 4 th, I would lose this benefit?
I believe you’ll be stuck with the one you chose last year by default.
I think that’s fine. These credits are so hard to use anyway.
It is supposed to be selected by the end of January, but they have always changed later if you call and ask, and haven’t already used some (and sometimes even if you have used some).
Is it possible to apply, get approved and select my airline on the same day? Deciding if I should pull the trigger or not
Yes you can select immediately after you get approved
Yes, I just did this yesterday.
Whats the best way to use this credit now? I missed the united travel bank workthrough
delta pay remaining balance after applying gift card
So does it mean I can pay for $100 with gold and $40 with gift card for a $140 ticket? Does it have a restriction for the amount of applied gc and gold card ? Never tried delta before. Thx
>tfw Delta Amex offer won’t show on my Gold Card, only non-airline credit cards
I did not get United travel bank credit from Amex. Very disappointed about this.
So if I have a green I need to also upgrade now to get the $100 airline credit this year?
I would apply separately through Resy offer
No idea what you just said. what’s a Resy offer/
https://resy.com/amex-offers?date=2021-02-02&seats=2
You can also check CardMatch or AmEx prequalify to see if you’re targeted for 75k but I doubt it since you’re an existing cardholder.
But does the $100 credit work on any giftcards anymore?
Not really.. check Flyertalk for more info and datapoints
Applies to authorized users as well?
if they are AUs on the gold card they will draw from the shared $100. if it’s a gold AU on the Plat card it draws from that $200. Not a per-card credit :/
