Capital One Partners With Hopper (Travel Booking Platform)

Update 10/30/21: Site looks to be live now https://www.capitalonetravel.com/. Hat tip to Help Me Build Credit

Update 9/9/21: We have some more details about this platform. Hopper/Capital One will offer free Price Drop Protection on flights. If the price you pay between booking and when the flight takes off you’ll be refunded the difference. They will also offer a best price guarantee on flights, hotels and car rental. Hat tip to DDG

Capital One has partnered with travel booking platform Hopper. Hopper has just closed its series F round of $170 million which was also lead by Capital One. As part of this partnership Capital One Travel (powered by Hopper) will launch in late 2021. Users will be able to both earn and redeem rewards through this platform.

Hopper’s  main point of difference is that it tells consumers when is a good time to buy tickets/hotels based on it’s AI. Users can also set up price alerts. All of that doesn’t sound terribly exciting to me, but if the earning and redeeming is good enough value then this will be popular.

The alerts maybe good for direct bookings – after COVID. I very seen/read to many nightmare trips/delays etc. That direct bookings would have it vastly easier and less stressful to resolve.

Got approved with $3.6k limit. Carrying a small balance on 6 of my credit card accounts. That may be the key. 770 credit score, 75k income.

I’ve tried hopper for international flights and I’ve not found it to help any better. I like the direction capital one is going but this could potentially appear to be a gimmick than actual benefit to users.

Caesar’s Entertainment also has a new travel partner

I think it is listed under Diamond benefits

I recently went to Caesars Entertainment laurel lounge with my wife

I had fish and it was great

How Hopper is different than Google flights, both are free apps. I would like to see how Cap1 makes it of any value to us, like 10x if you book thru Hopper link? I did use hotels.com link for many non-chain hotels for 10x.

“Hopper’s main point of difference is that it tells consumers when is a good time to buy tickets/hotels based on it’s AI.”

If their AI is able to be leveraged for better user outcomes in the former of greater value for rewards redemptions–boosting rewards earning potential–(something completely lacking from other proprietary credit card travel portals), then I’m all for it.

I have been waiting for SOMETHING to make my grandfathered $59 AF worthwhile. Not sure this is it, but I’ll wait and see

I really appreciate Capital Ones commitment to their non-elite branding though. Hopper being discount prices rather than elite perks is right on and I think it fits well. Not really something I’m going to use but I think it will be an easy way to get friends into some of the travel game
