[Update] Arcadia: Get $50 Toward Power Bill for Sharing Picture of Your Energy Setup

Update 5/14/21: Readers in the comments are getting quick confirmations of the $50 credit from Arcadia after sending in a picture. Terrific deal.

The Offer

See offer on Instagram

  • Arcadia Power is offering their members a $50 credit toward your power bill when you share a pic of how you use energy at home on your public Instagram profile and tagging @arcadiahq & #OnGoodEnergy or by emailing your photo to support @arcadia.com with the subject line #OnGoodEnergy.

You can read more about Arcadia power in our previous post about them.

Our Verdict

Details are a bit scant and I don’t know of an official landing page for this offer, but it looks like an easy $50 and can’t hurt to try. Not sure if it’s worth joining Arcadia for this deal, but certainly sounds like an easy win for existing Arcadia members.

Received email referencing a blog post that says:

Since getting started in 2014, our offerings have included a Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) program, in which Arcadia has purchased RECs on behalf of members like you — ensuring that 100% of your home energy use is matched with clean kilowatts.

But moving forward, we’ve decided that retiring this program will allow our team to focus on where we can make a bigger impact: our community solar program. Read on to learn more about how and why we’re refocusing our efforts. https://blog.arcadia.com/understanding-your-options-for-clean-energy-at-home/

What exactly does this mean? If not in solar program, you must choose if available?

Anyone saw actual credit on the bill? I am due for payment on 23rd, so will find out. The monthly statement didn’t had credit mentioned which was generated after doing this offer.

Curious to see if any unused portion of the $50 credit gets rolled over into the following month. My electricity bill for this time of year is ~$30.

I haven’t seen it yet. My statement period ended three days after support confirmed my credit so I’m expecting it on the next one.

My experience with Arcadia was different than most and not positive. Until early 2019, I was on the free plan and did not accept several Arcadia offers to join some kind of renewable power arrangement that also involved switching my wholesale provider from the local electric utility to another company of Arcadia ‘s choosing. As background I am in one of states with a so-called competitive energy market where households can choose different wholesale providers other than their local utilities. In theory, these wholesalers can be cheaper or provide incentives such as gift cards or flyer miles, but in practice they are often more expensive than the default utility- sometimes 25-50% more. In short order, Arcadia made several changes to our arrangement in April 2019 that concerned me. First, they sent an email that I unwisely ignored changing the arrangement so that I would accept the renewable power contract and change the wholesale provider unless I opted out by email within 8 days. Second, they changed the email and the password on my utility’s online account so that I could no longer access the account, check my energy usage or even adjust my thermostat using the utility’s app. I checked with Arcadia and they confirmed this was the new setup and would (or could) not share the email and password they were usjng to manage my online electric account. It then took me several days to figure out what was going on and convince my utility that I had not authorized the new arrangement. They changed the email back to my own and reset the password. But regaining my online account still left me an Arcadia customer and they needed some way to be able to bill me. In the hope of staying with them, I checked my old emails and discovered the one email I had ignored that superceded the others and announced the 24 month contract and changed my wholesale provider. I Googled the wholesale provider selected by Arcadia and they were a well known high cost provider. Naturally I was concerned so I emailed Arcadia about the rate and they replied it would be 10% lower than the utility for 3 months and then fluctuate based on market rates for renewable power. I had no objection to renewable power but wanted to know the rates I would be paying. In the mean time, Arcadia realized it no longer had the keys to my utility account and couldn’t charge me. At that point I decided to leave Arcadia and told them to cancel our arrangement. This was on Saturday and I was surprised to quickly receive an email saying no problem and our arrangement would end March, 2021 (23 months away) as stipulated by the unilateral contracts in the email I had ignored. I decided to write a strongly worded email claiming lack of consent with plans to copy the state’s utility commission. On the following day (Sunday), the same Arcadia representative responded and agreed to immediately cancel… Read more »

They were extremely transparent with their information with me particularly regarding getting an account with them. I have been an Arcadia customer since 2014. I was told early on that Arcardia pays my bill, i pay Arcadia. In order to do so they use a service like plaid and change your username which is clearly identified in your Arcadia profile. They did not change the password, only the login. I login to my utility company every month to ensure that Arcadia paid them and to compare electricity rates. I simply login with my “new” user ID Arcadia created and use the same password I always have.

It is extremely easy to see if you are saving money with Arcadia. Your electricity bill will show what you are paying for supply then you can compare that with the electricity company’s rates. I think my worst month with Arcadia was only like a 5% savings, never once did Arcadia’s electricity supply exceed the utility company. My best month(s) were usually between 20-30% in savings.

It sounds like you may not have fully read Arcadia’s information prior to signing up and as you admitted, ignoring emails sent by a new service provider is not smart. Shame on you. That is not their fault, that is your fault.

Got response within an hour of emailing this morning. My bill is due around 22nd so we will see if it gets credit then.

I am never charged monthly fee to use their services and CC acceptance helps me as my utility doesn’t allow fee free cc payments.
