Update 5/27/21: This has now been confirmed with e-mails being sent out.
There is a rumor that an internal memo at Hilton has been sent out stating that all free night certificates will be extending until January 3, 2022. The extension is expected to be formally announced on May 27, 2021. Previously these certificates had been extended until August 31, 2021. I suspect this will be the last round of extensions we see unless something seriously goes wrong.

I called yesterday to use my certificate and they said it wasn’t in their system yet and thus I couldn’t use it. They told me to call back “later” to see if it was loaded on their end. I might try again today.
I can confirm this. Called today 6/1/2021 and wanting to book a January stay but was told the same thing, the expiration date has not been updated yet in their system, and not clear when that will be done.
Are hilton certs book before expiration or stay before expiration?
I didn’t receive the email. Called Hilton, was told it expires 8/31/21. Asked to me call Amex to get that extended. I’ve downgraded my hilton card to no fee version.
Received an email, I had two certificates- one that was issued in July 19 (originally expiring in July 20) and another one issued in Jan 20. I thought both were extended to Aug 2021, but I got only one email – not sure if the earlier one is extended also.Any one know?
I believe the email was sent out per account, rather than per certificate. I have multiple certificates but only receive one email.

This is true! I spoke with the Hilton Diamond desk on May 21 about using my free night certificates expiring Aug 31 and they told me they could extend until January which they went ahead and did for me so I could book a trip to Mexico over New Years!
Also, the free night certificate used to be for weekends only but now it’s available for use any day.
