American Express has added a number of new benefits to the Platinum card as long rumored. The benefits are as follows:
- $240 digital entertainment credit. This is a credit of $20 per month and can be used on Peacock, Audible, SiriusXM and The New York Times.
- $200 hotel credit. This can be used on select prepaid bookings (Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection) when using American Express Travel
- $179 Clear credit
- $300 Equinox credit. This is a $25 credit each month.
- Global Dining Access by Resy
- The Global Lounge Collection
- 5x MR on Air and prepaid hotels (up to $500,000 per calendar year)
The $200 airline credit remains, as does the $550 annual fee currently Annual fee is now $695. I’ve got to say that the digital entertainment credit is disappointing in that it can be used on so few things. The hotel credit is also frustrating to use as it can only be used on Fine Hotels + Resorts® and The Hotel Collection. Obviously this is all a net positive at the moment with no annual fee increase but it’s only a matter of time before it increases to $695. For me personally this is now a net negative. I value the new benefits at less than $145, that might change over time as we learn more about the credits though and different work arounds.
Received a Platinum upgrade offer on another amex charge card. Saw the entertainment credit showing Disney+, ESPN+, Hulu & the Disney Bundle. Confirmed with CS via chat today — these will be added tomorrow 4/6/22. Finally some use out of this entertainment credit.
Question about stacking this with $200 credit that was given last year (for some users) would you be able to stack that and this $200 credit? The total stay comes to $351 so I am not expecting full $400 (200 + 200) credit but full $351 should be good?
For the $200 credit for FHR can you pay with a combination of $200 pay now and the remainder in MR points and still get the credit? I’m not going to renew at $695 and want to burn off some of these MR.
In case anyone had the same question, I went ahead and booked a FHR room at $362 and paid $202 using our card and used 16,000 ($160) points to pay for a room. The $160 credited the same time as the room charge and 2 days later the $200 FHR hotel credit was added. So yes a combination of points and payment work towards the credit.
Did you book for two days or a single night at that price? I’ve never used the FHR credit but I have two (maybe three coming up) biz plat cards and a Schwab plat.
The fine print of hotel collection is credit on “across all Cards on the Account”. What does it mean? The credit is not per card but per account?
credit is always per account
It really means AU’s don’t get an extra credit. If you have two platinums, you’ll get two credits.
Can anyone tell me what region and time frame are available through FHR and THC? I spent 15 min but found absolutely ZERO
Lol, not even one week into the change and of the eight restaurants that were Global Dining Access in Los Angeles, only 2 are left
How does FHR work if you book (non-refundable) with a platinum card but cancel the card prior to the reservation. I would think the reservation will still have the FHR benefits. Has anyone been in this situation?
It wont as you need platinum card during check-in
I picked up the card in January for the 100k SUB. I have had good use of it with its perks including traveling with my wife and being able to go to the centurion lounge this past year but I will be canceling before my renewal in January. I think removing the spouse from lounge access was the biggest bummer for me. I understand not wanting ten kids running around but a spouse is a tough pill to swallow. I guess back to the single business travellers it goes.
Exactly this. I understand they don’t want a bunch of kids running around. That being said why not just make it 2 guests related or not. I would have even been ok with so many guest passes a year. Another idea would be to allow one free authorized user so they would have their own card to get in the lounge.
They still make you choose the airline for the airline credit…do you guys really have airline incidentals yet alone with the same airline? Maybe getting that airline’s credit card would be the better deal.
Find this annoying as well. I ended up choosing Southwest because I fly them most of the time and use the credit for the early bird check in. With the changes coming to the Centurion lounge access though I’m tempted to switch to a American Airlines card just for Admirals membership. I like the centurion lounge better but not being able to bring a guest makes that pretty useless.
I’ve decided to cancel the Business Platinum too. Enough is enough.
