Our Verdict
We’ve just seen American Express increased the annual fee to $695 from $550 and add some new benefits to the card. This offer is the same as the previous offer apart from those changes and the 10x is on Shop Small/restaurants instead of Gas & Grocery. Gas & Grocery are much better categories in my opinion but everybody is different. Hopefully people caught Chuck’s post yesterday warning of these changes.
Does food delivery service count for the restaurant spending bonus?
Same question here. FWIW Amex rep said no. Haven’t tried it yet.
How long would his offer last? There is a Amex Business Platinum for 150k as well.
Guy on a forum I go to is reporting he got a special offer for 150k MR… still with only $6k spend… crazy… Wish I had that luxury. Provided a screenshot proof as well.
I think the 10x Grocery is still better for many people as groceries sell gift cards for other places and the grocery bill is many people’s highest normal spend they use a credit card for.
I found a better offer thru Resy: 125k MR points after spending $6k in 6 months, 15x back at restaurants and Shop Small up to $25k in spend. One odd thing is that the application page says up to $25k in spend but the actual Offer Terms T&C say up to $6k, so idk which one Amex will honor. Resy hasn’t updated their site, but Amex did on their end. See for yourself: https://resy.com/amex-offers?date=2021-07-01&seats=2
Thank you! Posted now https://www.doctorofcredit.com/american-express-platinum-125000-points-15x-shop-small-restaurant-for-6-months-resy-offer/
Gas and Grocery were 15K in spend, Shop Small and Restaurants are 25K. And I think you’re underestimating just how broad the Shop Small map is… it’s virtually any non-massive store you shop at.
Title still has the gas/grocery category, but should be changed to restaurants/shop small.
What actually codes as shop small? Any non-large retailer basically?

Search your area and there will be a “Shop Small” icon next to eligible stores in the results.
Pretty much, you can check any store on the map to confirm first.
The nearest-to-me Kohl’s, National Car Rental (at the airport..), and Lowe’s are on the shop small map.. (plus a gazillion actually small shops)
Amazing.. Had no idea Lowe’s would code, thanks for mentioning that! Any idea if a purchase from the lowes website would work as well…?
