A “qualifying direct deposit” is a direct deposit of regular monthly income, such as your salary, pension, or Social Security benefits, which are made by your employer or other payer, using account and routing numbers that you provide to them. Examples of non-qualifying direct deposits and transfers include: your initial ACH deposit to open the account, teller deposits, wire transfers, debit card transfers, ATM transfers or deposits, or Internet or Mobile banking transfers or deposits.
- Only one bonus of up to $750 will be paid to the primary checking account owner. The primary checking account owner must be a resident of either Westchester or Rockland County and this must be your first HVCU checking account to qualify for this bonus. Only personal checking accounts are eligible for this offer. Members under the age of 18 are not eligible to receive this bonus. No exceptions will be made or considered. Account must be in good standing and the qualifications must remain satisfied to receive bonus. May be subject to IRS reporting; please consult your tax advisor. HVCU expressly reserves the right to terminate this promotion at its discretion at any time and without further notice provided to you.

Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
The beyond free checking account has no monthly fees to worry about.
Early Account Termination Fee
According to the fee schedule there is an early account termination fee of $20 if closed within 90 days of account opening.
Our Verdict
Huge bonus, and even better as it’s a soft pull with a large amount of credit card funding. I don’t expect this to last long so I’d recommend signing up ASAP. Hopefully they are not Chexsystems sensitive. As always if you do sign up then please share your experiences in the comments below. This will be added to the best bank bonuses.

William Charles Offer link leads to error message.
I got a call from them yesterday saying that they had discovered an error in my 1099 for last year, and they would be sending a revised form next week. The problem was that they did not report the $750 to the IRS, so no 1099 was sent. They’ve noticed their error and will be sending a revised form along with a $50 gift card for our trouble, which presumably should cover the IRS and state penalties for late tax payment for those who did not report it on their taxes (like me).
Tagging Lily and DaveFT since there was a discussion about this below.
Thanks for closing out this mystery!
I’m surprised that they didn’t call you as well.
Thanks for the heads up! I also got a similar call from them this week. Thankfully I already reported the $750 on my taxes last year, so the $50 gift card will be a nice bonus 🙂
how do use the gift card?? Been trying to load ezpass ny account, that’s a no go…
I haven’t gotten it to work, either. Need to call the number on the card, I guess, but I haven’t had a chance.
William Charles This has expired.
Hudson Valley CU. Yet Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Ulster counties are excluded?
How do they verify your residence or place or worship? I grew up in Westchester, my parents still live/have an address there, and I actually technically still worship there. But I live in Oregon with an oregon ID
fyi- $750 bonus ended on March 31st. I just confirmed thru online chat
These are some of the ways they verify
1) Your drivers license has that address.
2) A utiltiy bill @ that address that’s in your name.
3) Rent/mortgage/ownership document with your name on it.
4) You provide a notorized letter from the person whose name is on the Rent/mortgage/ownership documents.
See that post.

Anyone try churning this yet?
can this be used for mft spend on venturex?
If selected you will also get $200 for participating in giving feedback about your new HVCU account in an online Zoom focus group
Has anyone received a 1099 tax form for 2021? I closed my account in Jan 2022 so can’t access forms online, and have not received anything in the mail yet.
I did not receive one, and if you check the monthly statement when it posted, they did not code it as interest. The YTD interest also did not include it. Did you report it on your taxes?
I didn’t receive one either.
If I WORK in Albany county but live somewhere else, am I eligible? thanks
I contacted their agent and was told NO.
