Update 10/7/21: Just a small update – I noticed that I have two of the same AmEx Offer for cell phones; one of them ends on October 18th and one on December 25th. If you have both, you’ll probably get two $5 credits for a single $125 payment. Still not an amazing deal for someone with an INK card, but could start making sense, perhaps.
The Offer
Check your AmEx Offers for one or both of the following offers:
- Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend a minimum of $125 in one or more transactions to pay your cell phone bill directly with a US wireless telephone service provider by 12/25/2021. Limit of 4 statement credits (total of $20).
- Others are seeing a lower $100 spend requirement for this.
- Get a $5 statement credit by using your enrolled Card to spend $100 on your cable/satellite TV bill. Limit of 4 statement credits (total of $20).
The Fine Print
- These offers expire either December 25th or 31st
- Cellular Offer Terms: Offer valid only for payments for wireless telephone service charges made directly with US wireless telephone service providers via online, mobile app, or by phone. Purchases made with third parties, authorized retailers or resellers are excluded. Excludes purchases for VoIP, hardware, equipment, and bundled home/cable services.
Our Verdict
These are likely useless for someone who gets 5x Ultimate Rewards points on their cellular or cable bill with the old INK Plus/Cash card, but still might be worthwhile for some others.

I am attempting to max out this deal on my Amex since I don’t have an Ink card. I made 4 $125 payments to my at&t account, 3 to my cell bill and 1 to my u-verse internet bill (this one may or may not work). No emails were triggered, but I assume that at&t would count for this offer, so an at&t cell phone bill should definitely count.
Remember Verizon may yank your auto-pay discount if you use a credit card other than theirs. Not worth the risk for $5.
wait, spend 100$ to get 5$. is that 5% cashback? my
Elan Finance card give me 5% back on cellphone and internet every month !
I used this for my Verizon FIOS bill. Sent in a payment of $100.50. Worked like a charm
No benefit to myself, still good with Ink Cash for 5x UR.
Pathetic. I’ll just use my Ink+ card for 5x UR.
I also have two Amex offers of $5 back after $125 spend on wireless. A tad better than Ink alone for me if I make two payments, one $125 with Amex to trigger both offers and remaining balance with Ink. This is assuming single $125 payment triggers both Amex offers.
terrible offer. USBank cash+ gives 5% on entire mobile bill payment. Cable bill too!
Yep, Amex’s offer is pathetic when compared to USBank’s regular 5% cb on monthly wireless and cable bills.
Ink has cell phone insurance?- That alone on my 6 lines is work 60-100 bucks a month.
You can get better cell phone insurance coverage for a lot less through some homeowners/renters insurance policies, depending on the state you live in.
Not worth switching out my Ink cash card
