(Update) American Express Lowe’s Business Card: $100 Instant Signup Bonus, 5% Cashback at Lowe’s, No Annual Fee

(Update 9/1/21: Official press release here. They’ve moved from a ‘points’ system to a cashback system now. Updated the post below.)

American Express has revamped their Lowe’s Business credit card. The new card has $100 signup bonus with no requirements, earns 5% back for 6 months on Lowe’s purchases, 5% discount at Lowe’s checkout on eligible purchases, and has no annual fee. (previous version of this card details here)

American Express Lowe’s Business Card

Signup Bonus

  • Get $100 bonus upon approval. No requirements.
  • 5% back during the first 6 months on eligible purchases made on your Card at Lowe’s.

Card Details

  • 5% off every day from Lowe’s on eligible Lowe’s purchases
  • 2% at U.S. restaurants, office supply stores in the U.S. and on wireless telephone services purchased directly from U.S. service providers
  • 2% per dollar on Lowe’s purchases
  • 1% on other purchases.
  • No annual fee

Our Verdict

This could be interesting to some due to the easy $100 signup bonus. Also interesting for heavy Lowe’s users since you get 5% off at the register on eligible purchases + 2% back on the card for a total of 7% back; 10% during the first 6 months.

If your friend refers you, they can get a bonus of up to 30,000 points as well when you get approved for the Lowe’s card.

The old version of this card had no signup bonus. The dining/cell/office category is going down from 3% with the old card to 2% with the new card. Everything else seems mostly the same.

Post (and Amex) is misleading:

You can earn 5% cash back on eligible purchases at Lowe’s during the first 6 months of Card Membership starting from the date of account approval. That is 3% back (or 3 points) on top of the 2% back (or 2 points) you already earn per dollar spent on eligible purchases at Lowe’s.

How does the 5% off at Lowe’s work when ordering online? I have LowesforPros so I get contractor pricing but I haven’t noticed any pricing discounts when using Lowe’s card.

Of all the problems getting a card with Amex I’m shocked at getting 2 cards(P1&P2). Easiest $200 I ever got.

I am sorry, but where does it say 5% back after the initial 6 months of card as I read it which could be completely wrong after 6 months it goes to 2% at Lowes?? if stay 5% at register and then 2% at statement after intro I would definitely be interested as building a house now and need to spend quite a bit of money once I move in on fence and many other things

It’s 5% off in the store and an additional 5% back in cash for 6 months. After 6 months it’s still 5% off in store but only an additional 2% cash back.

merp, got the pop up- forgot I was at 4 cc’s (hilton no AF- 5yrs old- and then hilton, marriot, and delta plat biz all opened in the last year). I’ve been getting personal pop up for 2+ years now- if I close that will it- 1. make it likely I can get the Lowe’s (I have an expense it would be useful for) 2. shift me out of personal popup land (all the various spend tricks have not worked for me)

Does this stack with the 10% Military/Veteran discount?

How does the 5% off at the register work? Does the clerk say “Oh, I see you’re about to pay with the Amex Lowe’s card, wait, let me take 5% off first” ?

It’s automatic

Probably like the Target card. When you swipe it, it automatically takes 5% off. Just guessing here.

It’s exactly this. When you put your card in, immediately the price drops at the point it reads it. You can see the 5% discounts on each item on the receipt.

Probably pay in full at register, but then get 5% back as points/cashback balance

Anyone tried buying the mcgcs in store at Lowes? Does that give 5x points or the discount?
