Update 1/19/21: Existing packages will end on 2/28/22. Marriott made the following statement:
For members who have a current Travel Package certificate attached to a reservation, they can rest assured their package will be honored, and no additional action is required. However, if they need to make any modifications after March 2, 2022, they will need to contact Member Support and an associate will refund the total hotel portion in points.*
Members who have purchased a Travel Package but have not yet attached their Travel Package Certificate to a reservation, must contact Member Support by February 28, 2022. for assistance in attaching their certificate. If a member does not attach their Travel Package Certificate to a reservation by that date, the certificate will be cancelled, and the total hotel portion will be refunded to your account as points.
The points refunded will be as the follows:
- If you bought a category 1-4 certificate and 110K miles for 330K Marriott points you will get a refund of 210K Marriott points after 2/28 if you don’t use your hotel certificate.
- If you bought a category 5 certificate and 110K miles for 390K Marriott points you will get a refund of 280K Marriott points after 2/28 if you don’t use your hotel certificate.
- If you bought a category 6 certificate and 110K miles for 510K Marriott points you will get a refund of 420K Marriott points after 2/28 if you don’t use your hotel certificate.
- If you bought a category 7 certificate and 110K miles for 570K Marriott points you will get a refund of 490K Marriott points after 2/28 if you don’t use your hotel certificate.
- If you bought a category 8 certificate and 110K miles for 750K Marriott points you will get a refund of 700K Marriott points after 2/28 if you don’t use your hotel certificate.
Marriott will be discontinuing Flight and Hotel Awards travel packages on 1/19/22. Most people lost interest in these packages once the the five night options were removed.

Points just posted! Got an email that my cert was cancelled, +210,000 points in my account.
Marriott “Bonvoyed” account showing the points are attached to the 7-night certificates and also has the same Expiration date attached. Also, the points are not “deposited” to the account yet. Knew Marriott will Bonvoyed us AGAIN by screwing us!
It’s already 3/2/2022. My 7-night certificate still sit in my account. It’s not converted to 210k Marriott points yet.
I got a “7 Night Travel Package Category 8 Hotels” back in the SPG days that is still on my account. It was 360K and 120K went to my Alaska Mileage Plan. After the merger, it was reduced to “Partial Package – 7 nights category 6”, so I should get the following:
60K (peak Cat 6) x 7 nights = 420K points
Right?
I know the math is right, just searching for a data point on whether Marriot will treat the old packages the same as post-change package purchases.
That’s quite generous of Marriott. I too have a couple of these travel packages and was desperately trying to find a way to use them before June 30. Now that Marriott is converting them directly to points, I am somewhat relieved. Points are much more flexible than a 7 night block.
But I do question the math, since I figured they would at best give back 6 nights Peak Value considering the 5th night is free. 6 nights at 60K is still very good rebate since the packages pre-merger costed 390K or 130K SPG.
Its just that the statement from Marriott is a bit confusing. Are we positive they are refunding the hotel portion at peak value or are they only giving back the original refund values of just 165K? It would be heartbreaking to find out after February that I just got bonvoyed.
If you look at the Dan’s Deals post linked above, including the comments, it’s stated that Marriot is giving back 7 nights of points at the peak rate for the category of the package. Marriott must be desperate to get these points off their books by making them more versatile than being in a package.
+1, hope someone can give clarity on this
I have category 5 7 night certificate, is that mean I can get 280k points back, that will be a good deal.
Smoke them if you got them. Burn and churn. Soon as you get points use them. There is no consistency in credit cards points, airline miles, and hotel points. Marriott Bonvoy travel points redemption value gets worse daily. I am glad I used most of my Marriott points in September 2021.
FFFFFFFFFFUCK I think these travel packages are still a good deal to be honest. I have 700k+ Marriott points right now,
For 570k points I can get 110k miles for United, and 7-nigths at a Category 7. How is that not better than booking 7 nights with straight points?
Well, it’s only better if you would really use 7 nights at that Category 7 hotel even if it this offer didn’t exist.
I never stay 7 nights ANYWHERE (I think my lifetime limit is 5 nights at one place), and I don’t seek out high-Category hotels (I decide where I want to go and I look to see what the hotels are there).
So for me it wouldn’t be a good value at all (because I would never use all 7 nights, and so I’d be throwing away some of the nights and actually doing a shorter stay than 7 nights).
I have a lot of Marriott points too, but I more often use them up on hotels which are 17.5k Marriott points/night and such (but not just that hotel but every hotel around there on that is quite expensive, perhaps due to a local event). That’s what I find to be a good value, even if it draws down my points slowly, and even if it’s just a Residence Inn.
So what is a good value is different for everyone.
And based on discussions I’ve seen about these travel packages elsewhere for years, I gather it’s a small minority of people who find good value often enough in 7-night stays to make good use of these travel packages.
I did 7 nights in Maui with one of these certs a few years ago and it was fantastic. I don’t always do that many nights but there are certainly places and types of vacations that lend themselves to staying a week in a hotel.
I did the exact same thing, 7 nights in Maui. It was PERFECT for something like that. Too bad the days of pre-merger travel packages are long gone.
I used this on the Big Island years ago but only stayed for 5 nights despite booking for 7. I never stay 7 nights in one place. I used the points to get a SW Companion Pass. This was a great deal way back.
is anyone else going to cash out on this before it gets discontinued? Feels like Marriott points have lost so much value, as might as well get some airline miles out?
I’m just sitting here thinking that I wish I’d done one for the miles.
most likely due to moving to dynamic pricing.
Any word on if transfers to airline points will still be the same ratio?
