We’re not quite done with Amex Checkout yet…
We wrote previously, Amex Checkout Updates: Newegg, Sabon, Ticketmaster, WSJ, & More. The one that appeared dead was the Ticketmaster. Not only were the $1 donation options gone, Ticketmaster actually coded the system not to allow Amex Checkout payments to work on these small/donation purchases.
Reader Tom points out that it’s still possible to make $5 per Amex card via donation. The trick is to purchase a free ticket to an event here and then add a $5 donation to the cart. Since you’re buying an ‘ordinary’ ticket, the system is allowing you to pay with Amex Checkout and this should work to trigger the $10 credit. Total profit will be $5.
This method may die eventually (if only because we’re posting it), but it seems too small and limited to make much of a difference and they probably won’t even bother stopping it if they find out about it. That said, if you want to take advantage of this moneymaker, it’s worth doing it sooner rather than later.
I imagine we could get a tax deduction for the donation to charity, which increases our profit a bit more.
🙂
For what it’s worth, I made a $5 charge towards charity on all 15 of our Amex cards through ticketmaster on 7/22. The $10 credit posted for all 15 on 7/25.
Ah, nice, yes, it looks like mine posted last night as well. Cheers for a free $14.60/card on this round of Amex deals.
So, I did this on the 22nd and the credit hasn’t posted. For comparison, Newegg credits posted two days after my purchases went through. Anyone else get a ticketmaster credit yet?
I tried to do the amex checkout w/ ticketmaster- amex checkout didn’t show up – so couldn’t use- did this happen to anyone else?

Didn’t work for me either
Here’s a few more Free Summer Flicks in Pompano Beach that we can all choose from to try and help spread out the number of tickets we might be taking from locals who actually want to go to these events… As someone mentioned before I hope we’re not going to cause any issues for the organizers (aka forcing them to rent more port-a-potties or having to hire security for hundreds more people than they were expecting!)
Worked like a charm!
much thanks. was easy to do, now just awaiting the credits to my amex’s
I bought one and will see how the credit goes. I don’t mind donating $5 to a good cause. It showed up in pending. I’m guessing it takes 4-7 days to get a credit.
Anyone find another venue? ;D
I easily found some minor league baseball tickets for $6.60 total.
Nice. Link?
There are many. Did you search?
@Latifa – Did you originally find out about these AmEx deals by doing original “searching?” Just post the link jacknuts.
No, Amex sent me an email announcing the deal. Then I searched the Ticketmaster site.
Rich,
Now that all the credits have posted, and we have a dozen Amex accounts with -$40 balances, is there an quick or easy way to get rid of those credits? Is it possible to have Amex move the money around to consolidate the credit into one account?
Thanks
Amex has a claim type “I have a credit on my account”. You can either request a check or indicate another Amex account to transfer the money to.
Thanks!!
I think you need to have a balance on the other card to do that
Amex checkout didnt give me option to receive one time code via email. Just SMS. Did anyone else noticed that?
Yes, this is considered the primary method of verification, if you have your cell phone # provided in your profile. If you remove it, the next verification is by CID #, starting today. Before it was by email or SMS.
This charity is going to be very happy and this events organizer is going to wonder wtf is happening
And, the movie venue is going to be empty and organizers will wonder wtf happened. we sold so many tickets !!!!
LOL
