Our Verdict
Standard bonus on these cards is $25. These deals can be useful to military and their families who are eligible for USAA membership.
$200 bonus now expired. Only bonuses are 2500 points ($25) on points earning cards; no bonus on cashback cards. Hope these come back when they mesh with my card plans since they didn’t this time.
Does the 5% gas work at costco gas station? I know costco store only accepts Visa. I am not sure about costco gas

Little known feature of USAA cards: you can get a cash advance from your card to USAA checking for free, instantly and at your normal APR. Pretty much everywhere else charges you 3-5% of your advance.

Just a heads up, they use the old Experian Fico 3 score for most cards
In general, the best card to get is the Cashback Rewards Plus American Express for the 5% back on gas. The earn rates on other cards are fairly lame.
Amex is not accepted at some gas stations. Apply for Abound visa credit card. It is far better
In the six or so years I have had my USAA Amex, I have only had a single instance of a gas station not accepting it (and I use that card each and every time I fill-up). Even in that instance, I just drove across the street to the next closest gas station to use it.
Will there be a no-brand independent gas station out there somewhere that doesn’t accept Amex? Sure. There are always outliers. But Amex acceptance at gas stations isn’t an actual issue to dissuade anyone from apply for the card (if they wish to apply).

YMMV based on location and chain, I haven’t been to a gas station that took Amex in over a year, but unless you’re a trucker or other long-haul profession gas tends to be a very local expense 95% of the time.
Do you happen to know if this card also returns 5% when used on the AAFES or NEX websites? I see it says it returns 5% for purchases on military bases, but I’m not sure if they consider their web presences in that category or not.
