Multiple people are having an issue with American Express referral bonuses not posting properly. The referral tracks and shows a bonus of zero. This has been ongoing for the past month or two, but only on select cards or for select people. We don’t know much more about why it’s happening, feel free to share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below.

I referred my wife from my Amex Platinum Business card on 12/18/22. She applied for and was approved for the Amex Gold Consumer card. I was supposed to get 25,000 points. Only received 15,000. Chatted with Amex and they said they would open a case.
For some reason my name is on the card. I called and they assured me the account was approved under my wife’s name and SS number.
You should tell them to reissue another card.
A referral bonus posted but can’t remember who/which card. Any catalog of bonus codes?
In 2 to 3 days after the points posted, Amex sends an email with the referral bonus earned, how many points earned in the calendar year and the email also contains last 5 digits of the card that was used.
Many people missing those referral bonus points have received the missing points on Dec 16th, 2022.

The issue remains unresolved as of Dec 1st, 2022. Most of 0 points items since June 2022 are still not issued despite multiple attempts to contact Amex. (based on DP from a dozen of users in a chat I’m in)
DP: P2 referred me to BCP Oct 12 w/ ED. The 12,500 points posted today as Earned/useable. No issues, although I generally understood it to generally take only 2-3 days, not 6, but that’s ok. Interestingly, the Description code also started with a K, like those showing up as 0.
I have been suffering similar issue with my platinum card. Missing two referrals from Jul 25 and Sept 1. When I talked to Amex, they confirmed those were valid referrals, and asked me to wait 8-12 weeks. So far no bonus. Nothing.

Chuck my theory is that people have hit the 55K AMEX MR cap per card. If you are supposed to get 30K for a referral, you will get 30K for the first referral, 25K for the second referral, and 0K for each additional referral since you maxed out the 55K cap.
I was assured people having the issue are under their cap 🤷♂️

I’m pretty sure that’s not the case here.
I have more than a dozen cards having this issue and I track each approval individually.
Historically, when cap is reached, the account summary simply won’t show any item.
Grant I’m having the issue and can assure you I’m under the cap. Received my 30k, should have received another 25k and it’s zeroed out.

I can assure you that I did not get a referral bonus when I referred my brother. When I contacted them they said they had no record, now this happened months ago so this is not recent.
UPDATE:
Put in a case, said they would call me back in a week, they didn’t. Decided to call them today – they told me the case had been resolved but the CS rep couldn’t see anything on their end. Confirmed I was due an additional 25k points, wasn’t sure why they hadn’t posted and instead gave me the entire 30k.
Great resolve for those who are waiting – worth putting in a “complaint”.
I am under the cap, and having the issue.
I am under the cap as well and did not receive a bonus from August 2022. Opened an investigation and nothing yet. Called a few times to check up on it. Still nothing
Facing this on my Gold – 30k bonus didn’t post. Called and got the “8-12 week wait” response. Waiting to see if it posts.

I have several cards of my players having this issue. Very annoying…
Amex chat rep’s response is usually “it’ll take 8-12 weeks for you to receive the points.”, which is untrue for as long as we know.
Two of them even said “You’re referring too many people. That is not allowed.” 🤦🏻♂️
Do they not understand there is a per-card cap???
I can no longer refer from my amex gold – the option was removed from my account over a year ago 🙂
