As part of the changes to Marriott cards (refreshed Marriott Brilliant, new Bevy & new Bountiful card) there was an improvement to the Ritz-Carlton card. Previously cardholders received an annual free night certificate that was good on properties costing up to 50,000 points per night, that has been increased to properties costing up to 85,000 points per night.
This card isn’t available to new sign ups unfortunately, but you can product change the Chase Marriott Boundless card to this card.
Hat tip to FM
Got a $150 retention bonus for Chase Ritz carlton after AF posted by calling in and politely threatening to cancel.
when I can get the free night certificate when I upgrade my card to this?
What is the best / easiest way to use the annual $300 travel credit?
Bump. Same question here. This is what my decision hinges on.
Book a Southwest Wanna Get Away flight and then “upgrade” to Business Select – send screenshot and charge to Chase SM and once the credit has been processed, cancel the flight for a flight credit.
Thanks! This worked easily enough for me as a last minute option.
Does the priority pass from Ritz Carlton allow for restaurant use?
Yes, it’s only Amex that excludes restaurants.
Not sure if the AF makes sense on this card. What’s everyone’s breakdown look like if you already have a CSR?
If you never use the ritz club upgrade it’s probably a wash for most people.
Huh?! This card is a no brainer.
$300 + 50k night covers the $450 AF and then some.
Let alone a 85k night.
Not when mentioning the other benefits.
Isn’t the travel credit only good on upgrades and other harder to use items?
The travel credit reimbursements are YMMV
There was a time before they started issuing the 50k certs where I was on the fence with this card. Given the fact that I hit LT Platinum and they just boosted the cert to 85k, and I still receive the $395 AF, I’ll hold on to this card until the end. Travel Credit has been effortless to use, and I don’t mind the annual phone call. Keep it coming Chase!
Hey Strat, what do you mean by the annual phone call? Does chase give retention bonus?
Hey there, I don’t have the card but I’ve seen that in order to apply the $300 travel credit to qualifying purchases you have to call chase and have them apply the credit manually.
I think this is what Strat means.. he just calls in ones to get his credit. Even if he has multiple charges, just waits till it goes to $300 and does them all at ones.
Strat, if you could, would you please elaborate more on 2 items
1) Can you still apply the credit in December for the charges from January?
2) Any hints on how the travel credit could be used besides the actual upgrades?
You can message, too. No need to call. I’ve done this for a half dozen travel incidentals with no issue
Just product changed, does credit limit adjustment still offer the af loophole?
No, that’s been dead for me at least a couple of years
I think that’s only for the first year of a credit line, wasn’t it?
Do you still need to move credit to 10k before/during the changeover?
It only ever worked if you did it when the card was originally opened, and stopped after the card’s 2nd year open.
I’m surprised that Chase allows product changes to a card that has been closed to new applicants since 2018 But I suppose it signals that Chase has no plans to terminate the Ritz card anytime soon. I have been a Ritz cardholder for 10 yrs and would hate to have my card closed. Then again I’m not thrilled about the cardholder pool being diluted with product changers. There’s something special about having a premium card that’s been closed off to new applicants for so long.
Don’t worry. Even if everyone else on the planet gets the Ritz card, you’re still “special”.
Wow gatekeeping much? Chase allows it and they aren’t reducing your benefits either
Dude Chase isn’t doing business to make you feel special
Just hold a UA presidential plus bro
lol get off your high horse. It’s just a credit card for crying out loud.
I feel the same way about my Chase Ink Plus card too. It feels even more exclusive than the Ritz card since you can’t product change to it. Glad that I never gave it up. I easily max out the $50K per year in office supply spend with all of the VGC deals at Staples.
Then spend a lot of money with Amex and you’ll get the onLy true I am very rich card
go get the centurion card ten
Guess they needed to do it to stop any people switching to Amex Brilliant Card, but no way the fee does not rise to at least 550 and probably 600
I heard its not metal anymore which if true that aucks
It’s no longer metal
That aucks
As of August it’s still metal; unsure if that’s a very recent change.
It’s “metal”… At least mine is. It is just not as sturdy or heavy as it was before it was closed off to new applicants. I just received an updated card last month replacing my old, heavy metal version. This new one is the same type of card (laminated metal) as the reserve/Amazon prime/chase united club – just Ritz Carlton branding.
It switched over to a CSR-style metal/plastic sandwich as soon as new applications closed in 2018.
Just got my replacement cards. Still metal but a lot thinner and lighter compared to what it used to be.
