The Offer
Check your email for an offer on U.S. Bank or Fidelity cards, serviced by Elan:
- Earn a $10 statement credit applied to your credit card statement when you shop $250 for online purchases from February 14 through March 31, 2023. Your card has been automatically enrolled in this exclusive online offer.
Our Verdict
Nice little win for any online shopping. There are other similar offers on U.S. Bank cards for shipping and dining/movies as well. Just keep in mind that on some cards there is a minimum to cash out points.

Will 4 payments to my utility company via PayPal’s “Pay Bills” qualify? Or will US Bank detect that they are bill payments (and not online purchases) made by using PayPal? Thanks for the help!
“Transactions qualify based on how merchants classify the transaction.” I guess that will ultimately determine and I would have to keep my fingers crossed that everything went my way on four separate transactions.
paypal passes the mcc through so i wouldn’t take the chance…just buy some costco, wm, or target gift cards
Thanks for that helpful info. It does specifically have to be 4 online purchases, so I will do that.

Does your offer specifically not allow bill payments? If not, you might be fine based on this comment from Nun.

Yeah, unfortunately the offer does state that online bill payments do not qualify. I was looking for a PayPal work-around, but it sounds like PayPal Pay Bills would not work since they pass through the merchant code classification.
Thanks, Eric
Received a similar $10 targeted offer from US Bank via email. “Shop online and earn a $10 statement credit. Make at least 4 purchases online that add up to a total of $75 or more by August 31, 2023.”

Note that no activation/acceptance of the offer is required. Offer states “Your card has been automatically enrolled in this offer.”
Anyone got the statement credit yet? I am still waiting.
If I pay my insurance bill online via this card, will it be qualified for this bonus?
I asked US Bank if an online insurance payment counts as online shopping, and they said probably not. Not sure why she can’t give me a straight answer but had no more information than what’s in the vague email I received.
I tried an insurance payment and will see what happens. The T&C don’t say anything about shopping categories, even though they talk about fashion and gear in the ad. It only says to spend money online. “To be eligible for this offer that runs from February 14 through March 31, 2023 (promotion period), use your U.S. Bank Altitude Go Card to Spend $250 or more online during the promotion period.”
I was told by a USB supervisor that bill pays (ie wireless, insurance, etc.) do not count for these online spend promos. That was a few years ago. Keep us posted if you end up receiving the credit either automatically or manually.
Thanks. I’ll definitely report back and expect a fight.
However they get to write the terms, not me, and if they wanted something less vague they should have written that, especially if they’ve had years to do so.
To follow-up, I received the $10 credit for paying $250 of insurance online. It happened automatically.
Thank you for the follow up.
Nun,
Did you have any other offers on your USB card? The reason I ask is I had a $10 offer from January (to pay an insurance bill) and then this $10 offer ($250 online spend) in February. I don’t see any way of knowing which offer the $10 credit that posted in May is for.
No. It’s the only offer received on this Go card in the past 2 years (formerly Radisson).
However, I have a 2nd card which gets regular offers, 4 last year and 3 this year so far. The quickest I get the credit is 4 weeks, but I have a Jan. grocery offer that took 9 weeks. Maybe it also depends on how close you are to the offer end date or statement date. My Go card statement closed last week.
I was about to call USB when I looked at the 2 email offers again. It turns out that the insurance offer has “earn $10 cash back” while the online offer (that you and I both received) has “we have a $10 statement credit”.
I checked my Rewards history and I received the $10 in April. So any offer that shows “cash back” goes toward Rewards while “statement credit” is a statement credit.
Mine says: “Make 3 online transactions totaling $100 or more by March 31, 2023.”
Got this on a card I don’t use much. It’s basically 6% cb on the $250 online spend. These deals take a while to credit to the account but they always pay out for me.

Usbank never pay for this kind of promotion.
I might agree with you Mark. It seems saying that it will take them 1 to 2 billing cycles to pay you. I received $10 off $75 and the other one $10 off something a month ago or two. Nothing got paid yet.
My USB offers usually pay out automatically. Only once or twice I needed to inquire about a missing credit.

This is basically just a 4% back on Amazon orders. Not sure if worth it if you already have an Amazon card (esp. ones that give 5% back)
There’s more to online shopping than Amazon.
It is at least 5% CB as you will get the regular 1% (USB) or 2% (Fidelity) on top of the 4%.
