Card Details
AmEx EveryDay Preferred
This card will earn a 50% bonus if you use the card 30 times or more per month. Below we’ve listed the rewards with this added and without:
- U.S supermarket purchases: 3 points per $1 spent (4.5 points per $1 spent with the bonus added)
- U.S gas station purchases: 2 points per $1 spent (3 points per $1 spent with the bonus added)
- All other purchases: 1 point per $1 spent (1.5 points per $1 spent with the bonus added)
There is also an annual fee of $95 not waived
Blue Cash Preferred
- U.S supermarket purchases: 6% back on the first $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%)
- U.S gas station purchases and select department stores: 3% cash back
- All other purchases: 1% cash back
There is also an annual fee of $75 not waived.
Our Verdict
The non annual fee versions of these cards recently had similar increased sign up bonuses ($250 for the blue cash and 25,000 points for the EveryDay), these cards are considered separate products so you could get both bonuses (or all four bonuses) but keep in mind you can only get each bonus once per lifetime with American Express. Given that they have offered similar bonuses on the non annual fee cards, I’d personally wait for higher sign up bonuses to come along unless you plan to take advantage of the bonus categories in the short term.
Hat tip to US Credit Card Guide
“U.S supermarket purchases: 6% back on the first $6,000 per year in purchases….”
Just a reminder that Amex misleads people with that “6%” figure. It’s 4.42% when you factor in the $95 annual fee, and that’s only if you spend EXACTLY $6000/yr. Because of the annual fee and the $6000/yr limit for the 6x for groceries, spending either more or less than that $6000/yr limit will start earning an increasingly lower percentage than even 4.42%.
Correction: It’s not a $95AF for the BCP. The $75AF for the BCP works out to 4.75%, not 4.42%. Sorry for the confusion.
It was a good card until they decided not to give us the bonus for shopping after activating their offers. Suppose to get back $15 for spending $75 on Wine and Country. Waited 90 days and nothing. Bought stuff at Dunkin Donuts and did not get the cash back. I made sure I activated the offer before doing it. Called customer service and they denied that I activated anything at all. Other things I didn’t get back. Too many to list. This card laughs in your face.
Try their Twitter support. I have had luck with them getting old bonuses credited after initial normal customer service avenue fails.
I signed up for the AMEX BCP for a $200 bonus earlier in the year. Do you think they’ll give me the extra $50 if I ask?

If I just signed up for the AMEX Everyday Preferred for the 15k offer in late August and haven’t received the bonus points, do you think I can get the higher bonus point offer if I’ve already spent over $2k? I’m just wondering if they’ll honor it if I call in.
I just downgraded my Blue Cash Preferred card to Blue Cash Everyday in July to avoid the AF. I didn’t know that BCP and BCE are considered as different products. I guess I am not eligible for any signup bonus of BCE, right?
interesting that AMEX is kinda cheaping out on the bonus for preferred version of the card. it’s higher than normal but I woulda expected atleast 2x the bonus on the regular no-AF cards.
on top of all that the 4 card limit really sucks. I suppose times like these you open and close cycles to atleast jump on these offers if you’ve never had it before.
>>I’d personally wait for higher sign up bonuses to come along <<
What have been historically the better bonuses on these 2 cards?
