American Express Adds Family Language To Blue Cash Cards

American Express has added some new family language to some cashback cards. Last month family language was added to Delta cards. The new language on cashback cards is as follows:

Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express

You may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees if you have or have had this Card, the Cash Magnet® Card, the Blue Cash Preferred® Card, the Morgan Stanley Blue Cash Preferred® American Express Card or previous versions of this Card. You also may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees based on various factors, such as your history with credit card balance transfers, your history as an American Express Card Member, the number of credit cards that you have opened and closed and other factors. If you are not eligible for the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees we will notify you prior to processing your application so you have the option to withdraw your application.

Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express

You may not be eligible to receive the welcome offer, intro APRs, and intro plan fees if you have or have had this Card, the Morgan Stanley Blue Cash Preferred® American Express Card, or previous versions of these Cards.

Our Verdict

I expect we will see more of this family language added across all American Express cards at some stage. Hopefully the language doesn’t get more restrictive over time.

Can someone explain to me where the family language is? All I see is lifetime language. I don’t see mention of family or household.

It’s card family. I.e. if you had Plat before, they won’t (or may not) give you sign up bonus for Gold

William Charles Looks like the Gold card now has new language referring to the Platinum card as well

Does the once per lifetime apply to just the bonus or to the 0% APR as well?

In the current interest rate setting once I’m over 5/24 I’ll likely just be targeting 0% cards for purchase. Rack charges up there, pay the min, put the rest in 5.5% 1-18 month CDs. Profit.

Do the business ones while you can.

They’re still targeting me for those.

I would never waste a 5/24 spot on of these cards.

The early bird catches the worm. Glad I’ve already churned all the Amex in the early stage. Now just gimme those NLL.

Well, shoot. That puts an end to the gambit of alternating Blue Preferred between spouse and I. After one year, whoever has Preferred PCs to Everyday, and the other upgrades Everyday to Preferred to get a bonus as high as $250 plus waived AF. It’s almost like they just figured that out.

Seems like if they offer the upgrade to you it should still work though right?

Mike, exactly. Upgrades should still work if offered. Some of the comments here are really misinformed.

That what I was thinking. Check the language . in your upgrade offer ….

This does not apply to the targeted upgrade offers. If you get those, you should be eligible for an upgrade. Had the same upgrade situation with EveryDay and EveryDay Preferred for a few years in a row. Waiting for the next one. 🙂

AMEX seems to be gradually reducing the number and value of new card bonuses and ratcheting up the popup restrictions. Yet the NLL Biz offers seem to keep coming. Does this mean anything or is this just part of the ebb and flow of their credit card business?
