Our Verdict
Last year there were issues with this promotion posting, but eventually worked fine. This can be an interesting offer with the following cards:
- The Travel Rewards, Premium Rewards, and Unlimited Cash Rewards cards earn 1.5% on all purchases. On November 9th you’ll get an extra 2% for 3.5% total everywhere.
- This is especially interesting for top-tier Preferred Rewards relationship clients who always get 2.62% on all purchases with these cards and will get 4.62% everywhere on November 9th.
- Bank of America Customized Cash Rewards card always gets 3% on one category of your choice (or 5.25% for Preferred Rewards clients) and 2% on grocery/wholesale (3.5% for Preferred Rewards clients) on up to $2,500 in purchases. On November 9th it’ll be 2% on top of that. That’s a potential total of 7.25% on your chosen category for top-tier Preferred Rewards clients.
- Earn 3x miles per dollar everywhere on the Alaska Airlines card.
- Apply for a new Bank of America card now and you’ll hopefully have the card by November 9th when you can meet the minimum spend at increased earn rates.

Some tips:
- Consider paying taxes with the credit card convenience fee of around 2% on November 9th and you’ll still come out ahead.
- Pay out any utility bills, medical bills, insurance premiums, charity donations on November 9th.
- Some people might want to manufacture spend, e.g. purchase $500 Visa gift cards, on November 9th.
- Readers have pointed out that you can get $50 bonus per card, so if you have multiple cards the $2,500 spend can be done on each one.
- Let us know your own suggestions in the comments below (we are aware that the comments aren’t working right now for most people).

Posted already but thank you!
Just checked my statement. For CR, the rewards gave 7.25% on the online transactions. For PR, got 4.62% on some transactions, while ones that fell into Nov 10 were automatically adjusted later on. So all points accounted for, no drama.
I checked my rewards after the statement close on Nov 28 and see that I got the credits automatically:
1. Rewards history on my Customized Cash Rewards card shows an “Adjustment” on Nov 29 for the promotional cash back amount—separate from the normal cash back earned on my 1 and only transaction for the month.
2. Rewards history on P2’s Premium Rewards card includes the promotional cash back as part of the earnings for each of the 3 transactions that month.
Got the adjustment today that covered my three missing transactions, no intervention needed on my part.
11/9/2023 More Rewards Day Adj 11/28/2023 11/28/2023 Adjusted
Just noticed an adjustment that was made for one of the transactions that was made on 11/9 but then ended up getting posted as it was made on 11/10.
Did you contact support?
I’m not seeing any adjustments for my two transactions.
I did reach out shortly after 11/9 when one of my transactions that was made and showed up on 11/9 then got listed as being made on 11/10. At that time I was given a somewhat general reply (which I posted here a few comments earlier as well):
“The date the transaction is processed is based on the merchant. However, Bank of America will proactively apply a manual adjustment for purchases with a transaction date after 11/09/2023 if the transaction was authorized on 11/09/2023. It may take up to two billing cycles after 11/09/2023 for the adjustment to be added to the account.”
Hard to say if they are doing it in a more proactive manner and it’s just taking some time for them to adjust everyone that needs adjustments, or if it happened for me in particular because I reached out about it.
Thanks! Just looked today and one of my
two transactions was adjusted manually. So looks like they are reviewing them.
I never contacted them.
Prepaid my utility bills on November 9th morning, now they all said transaction date was November 10th. Same thing with Costco gift cards. I made 10 transactions on November 9th, only one transaction was said to happened on November 9th and get 2% extra rewards. The other 9 were pushed to November 10th and no extra rewards were given.
calwatch, JD, RiskandReward, Yu,
I just pulled my Chex report. GTE DID NOT pull my Chex report when I opened a CD last week so the rep that sent me a SM was correct.
Thanks, good to know for sure
Same. Let’s keep this discreet 🙂
I had a tax payment made on the west coast at 1 am EST which didn’t go through with the 2%, yet I had insurance payments also with a west coast insurer which did (and those payments were made prior!) But at least my $2500 GTE CD posted on time for a nice $181.25 chunk of change on top of the $127 interest.
Nice so no $50 cap?
$50 bonus plus $131.25 is the 5.25% for online purchase with 1 of the various Custom Cash Cards and the Platinum Honors tier.
From a chat with a BofA online specialist:
“The date the transaction is processed is based on the merchant. However, Bank of America will proactively apply a manual adjustment for purchases with a transaction date after 11/09/2023 if the transaction was authorized on 11/09/2023. It may take up to two billing cycles after 11/09/2023 for the adjustment to be added to the account.”
Did you get the sense that they will do this for all accounts? Or just yours?
Debating whether I should reach out to support soon or wait it out.
Update: got category bonuses for both transactions made before and after category change on the same day.
DP:
Enabled online shopping in Oct.
11/9
8am: purchased software for edelivery.
12pm: changed category to gas
8pm: purchased gc at gas station
The more rewards bonus is another matter since my gas transaction had a 11/10 transaction date.
Wow…good to know, thanks!
The réponse was to a particular charge on my account that ended up having its transaction date changed to 11/10 after it got posed, even though it was there in pending form with the correct transaction date of 11/9 before.
However, the wording of the response and the speed at which the specialist provided it made it seem like it was a more generic one from BofA in general. Hopefully they will proactively do this for all that have been affected even if someone doesn’t reach out to them specifically.
Last year they did it for everyone so I’d just wait it out. Only a couple people reported they never got it.
Last year it was a mix. If you’re paranoid reach out in a couple weeks.
Rewards should be posting now for biz card transactions made on 11/9. My Plastiq payment made around 12:30am ET earned the extra 2%. I only have the one card so can’t comment on whether they enforce the one per business limit or not.
Yes, my 2% posted correctly on the biz card now.
