The Offer

Our Verdict

New member does not get any bonus on the Bilt card, though often people do get an official 5x spend signup bonus. This increased offer for the referrer is a nice bump up from the usual.

I really don’t understand why people use a 5/24 slot on this card… How much are people possibly paying in rent that getting 1% back on it is superior to earning a SUB on a different card?

If you live in a major coastal city, a lot of rent. It represents many peoples’ biggest monthly spend category. You can’t see why people would want 1% back on that versus nothing at all?

No, I said I can’t see why people would want 1% back on rent versus earning the SUB on a different card.

most places charge fees to pay rent with a credit card which can wipe out and rewards earned on the transaction

Because a different card would charge fees where the BILT card helps you get around those fees.

even with fees, a SUB is more lucrative than 1%. Your rent would have to be really, really high for Bilt to come out ahead against a high SUB

a SUB is more lucrative than Bilt in 1 year, but Bilt wins in longer terms (as you probably close the SUB card). Bilt is really designed for tier 1 city renters, where you easily pay 40k per year for rents. Plus, it has way better transfer partners than Citi and Amex for me, mainly because of Hyatt

You get a SUB once. With built, you get back 1% every time (which comes out to $60 every month for me just from rent). Add on to that the rent day bonuses and the SUB gets canceled out very quickly.

Everyone has their own situation. For me

Blit card is nice to have card that I get 1K per month for common fee that I use to top up miles for First class ticket that fly to Asia (mainly Japan). One year return is 12K BILT Points which if transfer to AA to redeem JAL First for 80K miles is equal to 0.15 ticket.

A typical Japan airline First class ticket (NYC-Tokyo) cost 12K to 13K USD, 0.15 of 12K is $1800 already ( more than 10% back given 12K spent).

And my choice of SUB is not bounced by 5/24 there is a lot of other factors to consider, and Chase is not the only player in the industry and you are really short sighted if you only consider SUB is the only way tyo make money from a CC

If you live in a high rent area (I.e. $4000/mo SF) where a landlord doesn’t accept credit card, then it’s the best option to get points on that spend where you can’t qualify it for a SUB. In this case, 48,000 points/yr with great transfer partners. Worth it this scenario, which is common here.

It just depends on your situation and commitment to the game. I pay over 50k in rent a year in NYC however my landlord accepts credit card payments with a fee. Rather than waste a 5/24 slot for Bilt we open a new card every 1-3 months to get a sub that makes the fee (usually 2.5-3% depending on issuer) worth it. So instead of 50k points a year on rent we make hundreds of thousands. But people who don’t have the bandwidth for sign up bonuses (who don’t even know what 5/24 is, which is most people) and multiple cards in NYC love this card. No annual fee, bonus on dining.

Also cosnider 100% + transfer bonuses. E.g. I just transferred 30k BILT points (from about 1 year of rent), into 60k emirates… Which is approximately how much the emirates CC Sub is, at $0 annual fee. An absolute keeper for HCOL renters.

Hey thanks for actually illustrating a scenario where getting the Bilt card results in value comparable to earning the SUB of another card

You forgot to mention that this referral bonus is to celebrate the bestest best no AF card award that TPG awarded to Bilt because what’s the point of being a Bilt investor if you can’t use your travel blog to promote your investment to the Facebook masses lol

Bilt Rewards is an independent company.

They partner with WF for the Bilt Credit Card product.

You know, like…every partner card?

Objectively, it is a good product. For $0 AF, it gives you a lot of value.
