Our Verdict
We just posted about a similar offer for Best Buy via Doordash at $25 off $55. This one isn’t as good, though some will still find it interesting. Just be sure to compare prices, and also to keep in mind any fees or tip that are added with Instacart/Doordash versus buying direct.
Hat tip to reader smirky cat
I got screwed by Instacart with this. My account had a random $10 promotion added to it yesterday, good for any order. I wanted to take advantage of this $25 promo to order a TV from Best Buy. I ordered the TV and was surprised to see both promotions applied automatically ($35 total), which collectively canceled out most of the service fee ($25) and tip. If not for the credit, it would have been cheaper to get it delivered directly from Best Buy. I paid and the TV was delivered.
I look at my final receipt after delivery, and IC (after the fact) removed the $25 Best Buy promotion, adjusted the final total, and charged my card again for the difference. I spoke with three reps, including a manager, who were all unwilling/unable to help even though they confirmed I was charged correctly the first time and “the system” automatically removed/adjusted my total once it realized two promotions were applied “in error”, only after the item had been delivered.
My only recourse is going to be a chargeback, which sucks, but this is the first time I’ve run into an obviously wrong charge with a company the size of Instacart that flat out refuses to correct the error. All over $25.
That blows and totally wrong for them to do. Their mistake for letting the promos stack, they should honor it. I’m hearing more and more horror stories about Instacart. I only use for the free $15/mo until my free Express runs out but even those little orders have seen their share of issues.
Yeah, agreed. I don’t see how it’s not fraud, particularly since they charged my card a second time to recoup the balance. Had to proceed with the chargeback purely out of principal, but it will be a bummer if they close my account and keep me from using the CSR monthly credit going forward.
For example the Insignia 24″ Class LED HD TV is listed at 10% off on Instacart at $85.98. But the online price is $79.99. The service fee for Instacart member is $3.77 and estimated $5.16 tax. Discounts applied -$25.00. Cost without tip is $69.91. Not much of a bargain even if you add in a discounted Instacart gift card. With the extra fees, unless you are getting 50%+ off, the Instacard “inflation” and fees eat up the promotions.
They should say the prices will be higher. “Best Buy sets the price of items on the Instacart marketplace. Item prices may be higher than in-store prices in your area.”
Still nothing on my account, must be a slow roll out.
It doesn’t show in the promotions list for me. When searching for Best Buy the store came up with $25 off listed underneath it.
That did not work for me either. I did have to return a grocery item the other day, so Instacart gave me a promo to use at any store (a whopping $1.99, the cost of the bad item). Maybe that’s preventing me from seeing this Best Buy deal.
I hate when they “refund” items to credit and then can’t use a promo with it.
This Best Buy deal isn’t that great anyway. They upcharge some items, at least the ones I was looking at. Seems to be the same in store price at DoorDash so I went with that promo.
Dont see anything on my account
