The Offer
- Citi is offering a $300 checking bonus when you open a new checking account and complete the following requirements:
- Open a new eligible Citi® Checking account with Enhanced Direct Deposits, and enroll in this offer by applying directly from this page. Offer valid from 1/10/24 to 7/8/24.
- Deposit at least two (2) Enhanced Direct Deposits directly into your new checking account within 90 calendar days from account opening. Your total combined Enhanced Direct Deposits must equal $1,500 or more.
- Your cash bonus will be deposited into your open, eligible Checking Account within 30 days after you successfully complete all required activities.
The Fine Print
- An EDD is an electronic deposit through the Automated Clearing House (“ACH”) Network of payroll, pension, social security, government benefits and other payments to your checking or savings account. An Enhanced Direct Deposit also includes all deposits via Zelle® and other P2P payments when made via ACH using providers such as Venmo or PayPal. Teller deposits, cash deposits, check deposits, wire transfers, transfers between Citibank accounts, ATM transfers and deposits, mobile check deposits, and P2P payments using a debit card do not qualify as an Enhanced Direct Deposit. (Note: see this comment about Zelle.)
- So long as you have not owned a Citi checking account in the last 365 days, meet Tax Requirements, and are at least 18 years old, you can apply to participate in the Enhanced Direct Deposit Checking Acquisition Offer (“Enhanced Direct Deposit Offer”) (click the Offer, Product & Pricing Information link at the top of the fine print to see this)
- All bank account bonuses are treated as income/interest and as such you have to pay taxes on them
Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Regular & Access Checking fee waived:
- in the month of account opening and for 3 months after account opening or
- each month the account has $250+ in Enhanced Direct Deposits
Early Account Termination Fee
In the past, Citi has not charged any ETF, and none is mentioned for this offer.
Our Verdict
This is better than the $200 checking bonus we previously saw. There is also a checking bonus for up to $2,500 but that requires huge deposits. This smaller bonus will be a better option for most people as those huge deposits aren’t required. I do think now that this is $300 it’s worth doing and we will add it to our best bank bonus page. You can see the definition of an enhanced direct deposit here.

Every time I try opening an account with Citi to do this bonus, it says they are having technical problems & the application doesn’t go through. Has anyone else experienced this???
The message that I always get is that they can’t verify my identity.
Agree with Terry. It’s often a generic error state when identity proofing cannot proceed. You’ll likely have to go in branch (could try via phone) to open.

I’ve seen some older posts (like this article) that indicate if you don’t keep your checking and credit accounts “unlinked” you end up eventually losing access to your online account after closing your checking (once your debit card expires).
Does anyone know if this is still an issue? I’ve used the same Citi login for years and would really hate to lose that login by closing the checking.
I also couldn’t see a way to unlink the checking account. 🙁
Thoughts?
It’s Citi. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst. You can contact support to unlink the checking account. It may or may not help. Tesla
I had no problem opening the checking account early Nov using existing login — no problem with my login after closing the checking account yesterday via online chat (checking account is gone and I only see my CCs)
Citi redesigned the online portal so as long as your account got upgraded to the newer portal in the past few years then to me you should be good
Almost all DPs show there’s like a week of period among “Open”, “1st deposit”, and “2nd deposit”.
Today I just opened my Citi checking account. On Fidelity, I was able to link this new Citi account immediately using Citi’s online ID (no micro deposit was necessary).
I’m about to transfer $3,000 ACH push from Fidelity, and a few days later, I will do it again. It can be done really like less than a week. But why many people are doing it for weeks or a month? All I see “two” deposits, and each of them should be $1,500 or more. Am I missing something here?
You are on track. Some posted here, account getting locked out in for higher transactions. Being cautious.
My offer was deposit $10,000 in 45 days form account opening and maintained for 45 days:
Forgot to note I withdrew my $10k on 12/09/2024
Super easy
Opened 11/8
Pushed $1500 from Ally on 11/14
Pushed $1500 from Ally on 12/6
Citi posted $325 on 12/13
I just opened up the account. Can I simply make a single ACH push of $6,000 (initiated from Fidelity) to Citi to get a $450 bonus?
Terms mention you need two DDs so it can’t be just one — Fidelity did send 2 small trial deposits for account linking so those counted as DD for me (got the $450 bonus with 2 small trial deps and a single $6k Fidelity push)
My experience with CITI – Excellent
It is very simple and easy to meet the requirement as it is EDD.
EDDs consist of qualifying deposits and certain digital payments made via ACH including:
Venmo
Zelle®
Paypal
Recurring Paychecks
Pension Payments
Social Security Payments
My DPs:
11/25 -> Acc Opened
12/2 -> SOFI Push 2K
12/3 -> SOFI Push 4.1K
12/4 -> SOFI Out (Initiated from SOFI) 2K
12/5 -> SOFI Out (Initiated from SOFI) 4K Left 100 in account
12/13 -> 450 posted

TIP:
For 325, hit 3K in any order within 90 days.
For 450, Hit <3k in any order. After 3K, hit remaining 3K in any order ASAP (in 2-3 weekdays).
Chances are high 325 payout triggered once 3K qualification met. BE CAUTIOUS if you target 450

11/22 – real DD $1k
12/6 – real DD $1k
12/18 – SoFi push $3k
12/20 – real DD $1k
Any issues?
Looks you are on track ST.
