U.S. Bank Adds Chat Feature

U.S. Bank has added a new chat feature with customer service reps that have the ability to actually do things (e.g closing accounts). This feature isn’t always available but when it is follow these steps to find it: Need help? – Contact us – in the menu, choose an account – click “Other topic”. Above the phone number, it shows a “Chat with a live agent” button.

I suspect it’s only available during certain hours and might even be a beta test. It was possible to do most of the things these chat agents are allowed to do via secured message but still a nice addition.

Confirm this still works in the app, just used it to close out P2’s checking account. A godsend if your P2 doesn’t like having to call or speak to anyone about churning bonuses!

The chat agent didn’t want to answer any question about un-credited Cash Back Deals. Said “Our department does not assist with the online cash back deals” and that I needed to be transferred to “a banker” for that. When she ‘transferred’ me, it just ended the chat. Total crap.

I used it to close my checking account a couple of months ago. I couldn’t access it on a browser but it was available in the app. Very easy.

Read the details before you get too excited, usually those offers are trash.

Just used it to close my Checking account it was surprisingly seamless. Took 5 minutes from opening the app to getting confirmation that account was closed.

What happens to the balance in the account. Will it be transferred to another account or they send you a check. I want to close my account too.

Every time I’ve closed an account, the bank has recommended that I transfer the money or otherwise bring the balance to zero, then contact the bank to close the account.

They offered me Cashier’s check or withdrawing it myself and bringing balance to zero. I opted for cashier’s check in mail and closing right away

Just tried.. It was not available under Checking and Savings Accounts or Credit Card Accounts. Once I switched it to Mobile and Online Banking it did show up.

I’m glad! I love any time I can close an account without talking on the phone. Makes me miss those halcyon days where every bank had a Secure Message feature.

It’s refreshing to know their chat feature actually can accomplish basic requests and isn’t just a way to falsly claim they have multiple methods of customer support. For a period of time it was getting frustrating that so many companies enabled SM or chat, and the response they always gave was a phone number to call.
