Avoiding Fees
Monthly Fees
Rewards checking account has a $5 monthly fee, doesn’t seem to be avoidable.
Early Account Termination Fee
I wasn’t able to find a fee schedule so unsure if there is any EATF or not.
Our Verdict
Not really worth it as it’s a small bonus and there is also a monthly fee to consider.

11/16: Applied online in San Diego county (OOS) intending to use religious worship as reason (we do visit LA fam often which sometimes includes church)
11/18: Received this message on app: “In reviewing your application, it appears you do not live, work, or attend school within our field of Membership (Orange, Riverside, Los Angeles, San Bernardino counties). For this reason, we are unable to establish your Membership. If this is incorrect, please let us know how you qualify for Membership in a reply to this email.”
11/18 (40 mins later): Replied explaining worship in LA.
Never received a response (despite auto-reply they will reply soon).
Not sure they actually abide by their policy (listed on website) that attending religious services in area is a method for membership. Religious services wasn’t listed in their denial message and they never replied to me. Not sure how someone who did legit attend religious services in service area (but not live, work, or attend school) would be accepted.
No Chex pull at least.
Denied in branch due to Chex. I went after applying from Kinecta so it was always gonna be tough to get approved.
I wonder if this is stackable with the $50 referral offer? I would be willing to try it out if someone can provide a referral.
The person in branch did say it was stackable.
How Chex sensitive is this CU? Any DP?
anyone successfully CC funded?
Did you CC fund successfully?
Fees schedule says:
Link:https://www.cusocal.org/CreditUnionOfSouthernCalifornia/media/PDFs/Fee_Schedule.pdf
No monthly service fee will be charged if Member meets any of the
following:
• Receives eStatements
• Has an aggregate savings and loan balance of $300 or more
• Has account activity within the last 90 days
• Is in the Value+ Package
• Is under 21 years of age
Otherwise, a $3 monthly fee will be applied to the primary savings
account. If the fee is not available in the primary savings account, it
will be transferred to the primary savings account from a secondary
savings, checking, or money market
I went today, lady told me it was free, then she called me and told me rewards checking does have a fee of 5$. Got me!
Ahh, credit unions. Banking jobs for dummies.
The fee schedule you linked lists a “Membership Fee” of $15, $10 of which is “Membership Par Value” and the other $5 is “one-time Membership fee”. Also says this “fee waived with eStatement”. Not sure if this is what the rep meant rather than the monthly fee?
offer is back 9/1 i believe. this time $150 and requires 24 debit card purchases. i might stop by on saturday to see if they will open an account for me since i wont be around in september and was denied online earlier.
