Our Verdict
Useful if you shop at Walgreens I guess.
Hat tip to GC Galore
Does anybody else have issues with these offers unenrolling themselves? I have tried enrolling in the Walgreens offer multiple times, it looks fine but then I check back a few hours later later and it’s not enrolled. I saw the 10% Amazon offer earlier today, enrolled, now I came back and not only is not enrolled, but the offer isn’t even available anymore.
Same problem for me for past few days — I give up
I was unenrolled from the CVS offer after I clipped it. Also, my Amazon and CVS offers keep disappearing and reappearing every few hours.
I tried to use the CVS offer. Bought $250 gc on Sunday. The offer completely disappeared on Monday. Reappeared on Tuesday as already enrolled but didn’t show redeemed. It disappeared again today. Just to add insult to injury, the CVS cashier redeemed my TY points at a terrible rate without asking me. Citi offer has been a disaster for me so far.
It is much more likely that you didn’t notice the sneaky TYP screen that appears when you pay than that the cashier redeemed it on their own.
Possibly. I don’t shop at CVS normally so I didn’t even know you can use TYP at checkout. It’s especially annoying with the low redemption rate. One good news I have is the Citi offer shows redeemed this morning so it tracked despite its disappearance.
You can go to the TYP rewards website and under “Manage My Account” there’s the “Shop with Points Accounts” page — you can uncheck all the boxes for various retailers where you could pay with pts (CVS/Walmart/Walgreens/gas stations) then save so it shouldn’t show in the future
Got a stack of good ones today: 10% Amazon up to $5, 10% CVS up to $25, this one, 10% Instacart, 3% Walmart, etc. People crow about Amex Offers, but these are pretty solid.
“Useful if you shop at Walgreens I guess”

Is this a code for something or a joke?
I’m betting on the 3rd option which is “neither”. Sometimes people actually mean what they say.
Question!. I use drugstores on my Custom Cash for the monthly cash back, up to 25.00 each month. I have the offer for up to 12.50 back on this card at CVS. I buy my VGC at CVS anyway. Would this enable a cash back of $25.00 PLUS the $12.50. Anybody help please. I’m buying anyway for the 25.00 CB,but would like to know. TIA
barrytuneup Yes. That’s the power of merchant offers. They don’t have any bearing on your regular everyday cash back earning.
If you were to do a single $250 CVS purchase then do another $250 worth of other pharmacy purchases (or CVS, doesn’t matter since the merchant offer is capped at $250), you’d see:
+$250 CVS
+$250 other purchases
-$12.50 merchant offer
+2500 points for 5% category
The merchant offer credit on your account is not coded as a negative pharmacy purchase. It’s coded as just a credit.
barrytuneup TDD,
Have either of you ever found a WG that lets you split tender on a Visa GC purchase?
never, but CVS only if the clerk has the know-how.
thanks!
I have a 10% cash back offer for CVS on all four of my citi custom cash cards in-store or online. Up to a $250 purchase.
CVS sells gift of college gift cards if you haven’t made contributions to you or your kids 529 plan yet.
Yeah, but do they sell $500 denominations?
Dylan It’s a nice idea except that you aren’t getting 10% off, it’ll be like 60% of that since you have to pay the activation fee.
For those wondering, 529 gift cards when redeemed by yourself, regardless of whether they were bought by you or for you, go against your own annual contribution. The only time a gift from someone else doesn’t go against your 529 limits is if they have their own 529 for the recipient.
Whoa whoa whoa. What 529 limits?
John Tax purposes. In Virginia the limit for the tax benefit is $4000. You can obviously contribute more than $4000, unlimited of course, but there’s no added state tax benefit. PA limit is $18000. Single filer.
Jesus, stop scaring me lol. I’m doing $69K 401k limit via mega backdoor roth and almost lost it thinking this little 529 game is counting against it.
My state doesn’t have anything like what you describe fortunately (unfortunately).
They have 10% on CVS upto $25 back. Good one to buy GC.
Can anyone help me with reading comprehension? Is this maxed out by making one $100 purchase (=$5 cash back max) or two $100 purchases (=two transactions permitted)?
I also find this point unclear based on the way it’s worded. Starting a few months ago, I found that Citi switched to this unclear wording for all of their offers that allow multiple uses. I haven’t yet had occasion to test which way it goes.

The offer is stating that you can get 5% CB on up to $100 of spend on 2 separate occasions. So if you make 2 $100 purchases (preferably on separate days), you should receive a total for $10 CB.
two separate $100+ transactions
