If you live California counties and purchased gas between February 20, 2015 and November 10, 2015 in one of ten southern Californian counties (or live out of state or on behalf of a business between February 18, 2015 and May 31, 2017) you might be eligible for a class action rebate. The counties are: Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, Ventura, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo, and/or Imperial.
It was alleged that gas trading firms participated in market manipulation and price gouging. They admit no wrong doing but have agreed to a $50 million settlement. You must submit a claim by January 10, 2025. The official website is: https://calgaslitigation.com/.
As always with these settlements you might as well participate unless you plan to file your own legal action.

Who keeps gas receipts for 9 years?
My wife calls me a hoarder if I keep receipts for anything we don’t need for a warranty for more than a couple of months. I only keep gas receipts when I am refilling a rental car and suspect the rental agency might try to charge me for a tank anyway…
I take pictures of my receipts in apps like ReceiptPal, Receipt Hog; gives a little bit of cash or gift cards, and occasionally it’s useful to see old receipts.
They want proof in the form of a receipt uploaded that you bought it… I certainly did since I visited Disneyland and Universal during that time and rented a car… but I do not have gas receipts from ~10 years ago…
William Charles You need to revise the comment, you don’t have to live in one of the 10 counties to file a claim, you had to have lived in California and had purchased gas in one of the 10 counties to file a claim.
Reading is hard apparently.
No, you don’t have to live in CA. Just the timeframes are different for residents and nonresidents.
I was only suggesting a change in the first part of the statement about living in California, not living in one of the 10 counties as stated on the official website. The second part of the statement about living out of state or on behalf of a business stands on its own and didn’t need correcting.
Good catch and suggestion, fixed now.
What if you’re not a CA resident, but paid for gas in that region?
That’s literally the second option for filing a claim.
Thanks! I just saw the post, which gave me the impression it was for residents only.
“If you live in one of ten Southern California counties” on this page.
where did it says that on the claim website?
on the claim website, it said “if you live in California”.
i live in northern California, San Francisco bayarea, i might have travel and visited Disneyland, Universal Studio, SeaWorld in 2015. that’s 9 years ago.
Jup, this seems screwed up. I’m in CA, I did not travel to these counties between Feb and Nov 2015, but yes between 2015 Nov and 2017 May, multiple times.
Just file the claim lol
Can’t, read the eligibility.
Please provide the State of Issuance and Driver’s License Number,
or
check this box if you no longer have a driver’s license.
Please provide either:
Passport Permanent Resident Card
Please upload a photo of your Identification Card
Be careful, it asks for your vehicle’s color; they already know it.
Comprehension must be hard. It does not say you had to be driving your own car.
In case someone misread, it’s not a class action against SoCalGas (the natural gas distributer) but gasoline purchases in the region.
Yes, gas for vehicles since you have to include your driver’s license number and color of your vehicle that you had in 2015.
LOL that is the dumbest shit I have ever heard of.
“Color of your vehicle” ? Like the class action is reviewing 24/7 security cameras that managed to capture every vehicle that filled up at ALL stations? And as if DL# is tied to gas receipts?
I get trying to deter invalid claims, but that is just asshatery at its finest.
Or maybe they will get DMV records to see what cars were registered to you and then see the color of the car on that record?
Actually, the 2 questions are random. You can check by reloading the page.
This seems problematic for people that rented a vehicle if they’re trying to match against DMV records.
I am in that situation. I travel to CA regularly, but get rental cars each time. I have personal records of my gas purchases during the time period in question, but I don’t have the actual purchase receipts from that far back. So I have no receipts, and no recollection of what type and color of car I rented each time. Too bad for me.
