Amazon Launches Low-Cost ‘Haul’ Shopping Experience, Competes With Temu & Shein

Amazon launched today a beta for a new ‘Amazon Haul’ shopping experience which focuses on low-cost items under $20, most being less than $10. These are items with slower shipping directly from China.

Note: Amazon Haul is currently in beta and is only available on mobile in the Amazon app. You can use the above link or search ‘haul’ in the Amazon app to find it.

  • Orders of $25 or more qualify for free delivery in one to two weeks, with a fee of $3.99 on orders under $25.
  • Customers get a discount when they add more items to a single order: 5% off orders $50 and over, and 10% off orders $75 or more.

I’m happy with this new option, assuming Amazon does compete well with Temu. It’s easier for me to use the same Amazon platform for all purchases. Plus, we can pay with our Amazon gift card balance for Amazon Haul purchases as well. Let us know your analysis in the comments below.

From a moral ethical perspective I am dubious on this.

Some people seem to be confused by this: the limits and rules are weird because Temu et al are taking advantage of a thing called “de minimis” where they absolutely blast small shipments as a way of avoiding duty/export. This makes shipping more expensive but the items cheaper.

in light of political headwinds around duty and tariffs around China, Amazon really took their time productionizing this.

Update: Being a software engineer why is the app a literally worse UI/UX than AliExpress et al. Just because the items are cheap doesn’t mean the actual UI had to cost $3.99, holy cow.

I think it’s a deliberate choice. The incredibly cheap UI/UX is designed for its target audience.

The question is, will Shop With Points discounts work on Amazon Haul orders?

$25 to get free shipping is still a lot more. It would be nice if can lower it.
