Our Verdict

There is also the five free night certificate offer (up to 40,000 points per night). Points offer gives you more flexibility but I don’t think either offer really compares to the five free night (up to 60,000 points) that we sometimes see. We won’t be adding this to the best credit card bonus page.

This card could be a monster in 2 player mode.

Have both parties apply for the card. That’s about 350k IHG points combined after spending 4k each.

For myself, i would have to let go of my Grandfathered IHG-Select that i only have to pay $50 in annual fees, but i think it would definitely be worth it.

Can you downgrade the premier to the no fee version and then apply for this. Essentially holding both versions.

Seconding AC . 170k should be worth at least ~$1000. Definitely belongs in the best bonuses list. Just because it isn’t at its supposedly all time high, doesn’t mean it’s not one of the best hotel card offers out there right now.

Don’t trust AC on this. He’s a noob.

Keep in mind that breakeven value on these IHG points is closer to 0.5 cents per point, so 170K is more like $850 (not consistently over $1,000 as you suggested).

Typical bonus is 140K, so while 170K is better, there have been higher value historic offers, like William mentioned, 5x FNC up to 40K and 60K, each.

If you’ve gone through all the other Chase cards and you wanna burn a 5/24 slot on this, be my guest. It is a keeper card in my opinion as the FNC offsets the annual fee if you use it wisely.

Everyone can do their own research. I looked up a hotel I frequent that I’d actually use this on and its 44.5k points per night, so the 40k cert can’t be used and 60k cert would leave a bunch of points wasted. Meanwhile, if I just have the points then 4 nights only costs 134k points or $1000. So this is worth $1000 to me with 40k points still leftover.

This is a way better card offer for me. But I do encourage everyone to have their redemption in mind and do their own math before deciding.

I’m actually surprised this isn’t being added to the best credit card page. 170k SUB goes much further than 5x FNC considering 4th night free and no expiration on points.

I agree, I like that you can hoard the points for longer than a year.

If you’re the same AC at VFTW, then you know nothing. 5x FNC up to 60K was the GOAT, and if that returns, it’s far superior. Even 5x FNC 40K is still more value overall (200K). If you aren’t traveling 5 nights per year, then what are you even doing here. I mean, to each their own, but c’mon my dude.

5x FNC 40K is trash. I’ll take 170k over it every time.

If I cancel my IHG Premier card today, how long do I have to wait to reapply for this or the other offer? I got my last SUB in early 2021, so that shouldn’t be a problem.

Can’t say for certain what the minimal reasonable interval is, but IME I’ve always tried to give it a full 30 days or so between closure and re-applying, and have not been denied. I’ve seen others post about a much shorter interval but the internet is full of lies and nonsense, so YMMV. FWIW, most offers appear stick around for at least a month (often several months), so I would think there’s plenty of time to let the dust settle. But no guarantees in this game.

I canceled an IHG premier card last year in June and re-applied for the IHG premier ~35 days later and was approved and received the SUB. YMMV.

Cards stick around for 3 months in your profile (according to CSRs, though my experience is 6 months and then they drop off).

Not sure if that will affect automated decisions (ie 31 days may be enough time), but it might come into play for manual review or recon.
