Our Verdict
As long as this is a soft pull to open, it should be a good deal due to no fees and the fact that you can get $100 of the bonus without a direct deposit. We haven’t added it to our list of the best bank bonuses, but we will do if we can get some more personal experiences in the the comments.

Just called to try to close my account, CSR said that the options are to:
1) Send a secure message via online portal
2) Go into branch
3) Mail in a signed letter
I sent the secure message, I’ll follow up with more details.
Thanks.

I was denied based on my ChexSystems report, which is a first…
How many accounts have you opened recently? I’ve opened 6 including this one, 8 if you include Mango and Netspend savings.
I just got an email declining my bank account application after 2 days of waiting. I’m going to call to ask why and update this post. Has anybody confirmed a direct deposit method yet? I’m planning on trying CapOne360 and DiscoverBank
“Dear ______________,

We appreciate your interest in PeoplesBank and would appreciate the opportunity to speak directly with you to help you understand why your request could not be completed.

Thank you for your interest in PeoplesBank.
PeoplesBank”
were you able to see the final screen with confirmation number and that their team has started processing the application?
I called them back, they said that “there wasn’t enough identifying information” and I could go into a branch and open one if I bring a photo ID. I think they just wanted to restrict online signup, but I can’t prove it.
UPDATE: I went into a branch today, it took a while but I was able to meet with a rep who set up my account. She was surprised by the number of inquiries on my ChexSystems report, but I just said that I open new accounts for different locations and business needs. I’m going to ACH $200 from CapitalOne360, and i’ll update with results.
– 3/17: opened account in-person
– 3/24: DD $200 w/ cap360 listed as “CAPITAL ONE N.A./CAPITALONE”
– 4/22:- 2 bill pays to capital one card
– 4/25: in-person Debit Purchase
*Waited forever for bonus to post but nothing happened*
– 8/30: email asking where bonus is for “bill pay, debit card use, etc” (didn’t mention DD in case they got annoyed w/ my antics)
– 8/31: Received $100 bonus “VISA AND BILL PAY REWARD”
Apparently CAP360 DD was a no-go, possibly because a person verified the bonus?
Also is this one per household?
I’m reading the fine print and it does say an early account closing fee applies. However, I can’t find where it says what that fee is or how many days it’s required to stay open.
After signing up at a local branch I got a sheet titled “Service Pricing Schedule” under “Premature Account Closure Fee” it says $100 if closed within 90 days of opening.
Thanks, added this in.
My pleasure, trying to contribute more DPs/details now. Thanks for all of your work!
Makes the world of difference when people contribute, I really appreciate it and I’m sure other readers do to!
Jay is correct, I just applied and CC funding is not an option. Also I was not sure if there was a promo code or not to use, but I went through the direct offer and nothing filled in the promo code field.
any other details on the promo code? Did you call to confirm that your new account was eligible for the bonus?
Hard pull/soft?
It looks like a soft pull as far as I can tell. Nothing reported on Experian or Transunion.
You can use Credit Karma to track Experian for free, mind having a look for me? https://www.doctorofcredit.com/whats-best-cheapest-way-monitor-credit/
I meant Equifax, sorry.
Credit.com does Equifax for free as well.
I can confirm it did not report to Transunion, Equifax, or Experian. (Checked via Credit Karma and Credit.com). Thanks William.
Thanks, Blake! Appreciate it!
CC funding does not appear to be an option:
