Bonus History
- Update 1/26/19: Deal is back and valid until June 30th, 2019. Hat tip to reader Pat
- Update 10/14/18: Deal is back but only the $200 offer is available and a direct deposit is required. I wouldn’t recommend this bonus. Hat tip to YAR.
- Update: When you click through it says the $15,000 in deposits must be maintained for 90 days. This makes the deal considerably worse.
Our Verdict
It’s sometimes possible to receive $350 targeted bonuses with no direct deposit requirement (and sometimes these are also sold on eBay) but this is the best public bonus they offer. We don’t usually see the $600 bonus and it looks like you just need make $25,000 in total deposits rather than having $25,000 deposited at one time. Keep in mind the $25 monthly fee, but it might make sense to go for the $600 bonus and just pay a few months of $25 in fees. If I lived within the target area I’d definitely go for this bonus as no direct deposit is required. It’s kind of a hassle to keep the account fee free even on the $200 bonus, but you could just suck up the $5/$25 monthly fee or close the account (after bonus posts, minimum of 90 days) if you didn’t want to park $5,000/$25,000 (you’d be better off putting that money into a high interest account in my opinion).

OOS in-branch opening DP: Opened consumer checking account for $600 bonus and business checking account for $1,000 bonus at a Chicago suburban branch. Have an elderly parent in the area that I visit frequently for extended periods of time, so have an actual need for local accounts. Process was completely painless and very fast; in and out in 30 minutes.
9/19 – Opened account
9/30 – $1,005 transfer from Chase
10/18 – $1,005 transfer from Chase
12/24 – $400 bonus posted
DP:
09/18 Account opened in branch
09/20 Chase push $1001 (Transaction Type: Direct Deposit)
12/25 $400 bonus posts
Is it a personal or business account?
Personal
it posted on 12/25 Wednesday on holiday?? since I opened my account on 9/24 and met the requirements for 600 but still no bonus so wanted to make sure if it can post on holiday like today
$600 Huntington Bank Bonus
However, the bonus is not received today. Can anyone tell me when I can expect to get the bonus payout, please?
Churnbaby I’m assuming you meant 9/5 instead of 5/9, so you should receive the bonus by 12/18 at the latest. If it doesn’t post tomorrow, I would contact Huntington and ask about it. If they still won’t pay out, then you can submit a CFPB complaint.
Thank you for the information, you are right that I mean 09/05. Based on the term, the latest that I should expect to receive the bonus is 12/18 ( 3 month and 14 days). I remember that the bonus usually posts around Tuesday, but it will not appear in the balance until the next day.
I will check again tomorrow and contact them if the bonus is still not posted at that time. Thanks so much!
can you update about your status of bonus
Regarding this verbiage: “Huntington reserves the right to limit an individual to one account-related gift incentive per rolling 12-month period across all deposit account relationships”
Does this mean you can’t do the Personal and Business bonus at the same time if using SSN for both accounts? I checked my tracker and the past 2 times I’ve done both Personal/Business bonuses within a a few months of each other and always got both bonuses.
Reason I’m asking is because today is my 104th day for this bonus, which is the last day the bonus should pay out by and still haven’t gotten it. Last Business bonus paid out on 7/9/2024.
Did you end up receiving the bonus?
if you can update us about getting the bonus
Recently opened my checking account for the $600 bonus. I initiated a transfer on huntington’s online banking and my account was suspended. They are requesting I go into a branch – nearest one is many hours drive away. I will likely attempt to push and pull from external bank for 25K new money requirement – all without online bank access. Has anyone attempted this before and received the bonus?
I did the $600 bonus last year and a similar thing happened to me. My account was suspended after attempting to ACH push from Huntington. They gave me the run-around and said I had to appear in person or send notorized proof by fax to unsuspend it. I live 3 hours away from nearest branch so I faxed what they asked. They never unsuspended my account even after getting my proof. I ended up just doing an ACH pull from my ally account to get the money back. The customer service at this bank is absolutely useless.
Moral of the story is to avoid doing any push transfers from this bank.
Did you continue to push and pull to get the checking bonus or not worth the potential headache? I wasn’t even given the option for fax oo
I don’t think I sent any more money there due to this. This was the $600 bonus so no additional transfers were necessary. I expected to take a hit for the monthly service charge but the first number of months are fee free so I don’t think I even paid a fee. I just closed the account as soon as the bonus posted. I plan on doing this bonus again but will not use ACH pushes from this account.

12/3 $400 Bonus posted as PROMOTIONAL INCENTIVE-THANK YOU
Bonus was dated 12/3 but actually posted overnight on 12/4. Avoided the monthly fee with Huntington Honors.
William Charles The terms have been updated at some point in the last few months. The $400 bonus now requires a $500 DD, instead of an unspecified amount. Not sure if there are any other changes.
Update:
My biz bonus just paid out on 12/10, so you can still do these concurrently (at least, if using an EIN for the biz).
Are you not able to do them both concurrently anymore if using SSN for both? I don’t recall ever having that problem in years past.
A few recent DPs have mentioned being denied the personal bonus due to receiving the biz bonus.
I did this bonus last year and had no issues, but this time when I tried to push money out of my account they stopped it 3 days later and suspend the external account. I did both micro deposits and login to connect my external accounts. Now they are making me go into a branch with bank statements to be able to push money out. I really don’t want to go in so I am just going to pull it, hopefully that goes through.
They have been really annoying lately because to close a business savings account that was zeroed out I also had to go into a branch too.
are you planning to complete it without access to online bank?
I have online banking, just can’t move money online without going to a branch first. Just pulling and pushing from my other account.
mothman69 I just want to confirm with the expert — this account, unlike the business one, does not have an ETF or 180 day bonus clawback, so it’s safe to close once it’s been open for 90 days, the bonus posts, and one has downgraded to Asterisk?
RM Yes that is correct.
mothman69 Thank you! Doing this for my elderly mom, so don’t want to screw it up. Also, you have actually inspired me to try these two bonuses with an OOS address when I am next in Chicago for Christmas and can go into a branch. I will report my DP in late December.
You’re welcome. Good luck!
How did it go?
I”ll be in Chicago next month and am hoping to get this in branch since I’m OOS. My chex is frozen, will that be an issue?
FYI the branch on Clark St said no to opening OOS. When I stopped in a month later to get Huntington Honors added to my account, the same people were working there. 🤣
Also, they don’t pull Chex.
I notice most DPs are including the downgrade step instead of closing, that’s just to put some time between the bonus posting and account closure?
Personally, I keep accounts open for 6 months in general to lower the chances of being blacklisted by a bank.
That aside, Huntington reports to EWS. It’s a good idea to wait the 6 months for your accounts to switch from “New Account” status to “Present” before closing. If most of your accounts switch directly from “New Account” to “Pending Closed”, it’s likely your score will be low and you’ll start being getting denied for EWS.
I see, thanks. I do remember seeing that advice when I first started churning bank accounts…although I haven’t been following it.
