Amex PRG: 5,000 Bonus MR Points for Adding Authorized User

The Offer

Direct Link (login required)

  • Get a bonus 5,000 Amex Membership Rewards points when you add an authorized user to your Premier Rewards Gold card and spend $500 within 3-months

This is a targeted offer. Use the above link to login, and after selecting the PRG card it will show the bonus offer if you are targeted. Seems to be working for everyone, but YMMV.

The Fine Print

  • $500 spend can be done on the new AU card or any other AU card, but not on the primary card
  • Bonus points can take 8-12 weeks to post (usually it posts much faster)
  • Limit one 5,000 bonus per primary card (adding two AUs won’t get you two bonuses)

Our Verdict

Amex is getting aggressive in their AU offers – we’ve seen the same offer for SPG, Delta Gold, and Delta Platinum.

Keep these things in mind about adding Amex AU’s:

  • No fee to add an additional cardholder, up to 5 free AUs on PRG
  • These authorized user accounts do count towards the Chase 5/24 rule by the automated system
  • SSN is required

If anyone has seen the miles post to their account, how long did it take after you completed the required spend?

Are you sure that it is going to work out if person was already added as an authorized user before this offer?

It is not possible to add yourself with a nickname or pet name and bypass altering your AAOA. Ain’t gonna happen. You’ll need the SSN more than likely before you get the bonus.

I have added myself to my own cards a few times on AMEX and they never show up as an additional line of credit, leaving my AAOA unchanged.

Is it possible to add yourself by birth date with a different name (IE use middle initial, make a typo FirstM Last) to not get added to new accounts and just blow off the mail asking for S.S.

when i log in, it asks me which card i want to use (my Simplycash is not listed). I tried with the BCP and Ameriprise Gold, and got rejected. My Delta Plat, however, i was offered 2500 miles for $500 spend. No AF for additional cards, so why not?

Is it b/c i’ve already paid an AF on that card, but not the Ameriprise Gold (waived first year)? I’d rather have 5500MR than 3000Skymiles, but whatever, i’ll take it.
