Citi offers a number of store credit cards to different retailers, I’m posting about these cards for two main reasons:
- Citi’s new application rules make it difficult to get the sign up bonus on their more popular co-branded cards.
- Citi frequently offer lucrative spending bonuses on these cards
They usually offer two variations of each card, a classic store card that can only be used at that specific store and also Visa/Mastercard/American Express that can be used wherever those payment networks are accepted. Sometimes they will only offer a store card.
Keep in mind that the standard Citi rules apply, if you want more information I’d recommend reading this post.

Best Cards
The most interesting cards are the ones that offer a true credit card (rather than the store card only), as these often come with targeted spending bonuses that can be used every where the payment network is accepted.
- Citi Sears. This is the best example of these targeted spending bonuses, you can click here to see a brief history of what people have been offered. This is one of the reasons we’ve listed it as a card to consider. The card will also soon have 5%/3%/2%/1% categories.
- Citi Best Buy. This is similar to the Sears card in that it frequently offers targeted spending bonuses. In addition it also offers 5% (6% for elite members) on all Best Buy purchases (excluding gift card purchases).
- Citi Brooks Brothers. PFdigest has reported receiving 10x points offers on this card.
Easiest Cards To Get
All of these cards should be pretty similar in terms of how easy they are to get. In general the true credit cards (e.g ones that are Visa/Mastercard/American Express) will be more difficult to get than those that are plain store cards. If you have bad credit and just want an easy card to get approved for, you’re better off getting a Comenity Bank card using the shopping cart trick.
Our Verdict
From my point of view the Best Buy & Sears cards are really the only ones worth considering, please let us know if we missed any other cards in the comments below. Synchrony & Comenity are the two other card issuers that issue a lot of store cards.
I use a Citi Master Card from Wayfair.com. It can be used everywhere, gaining 5% for Wayfair, all modern, birch lane, and Perrigold purchases. it will also add Wayfair reward dollars for groceries and any other purchases… There was also an awesome introductory sign-on offer for the first purchase…
American Airlines Card is a Citi mastercard
“Citigroup, a global bank with 200 million customers, told its shareholders this week that it will pay expenses for employees who must travel out of state or otherwise far from home in order to have an abortion!
“In response to changes in reproductive health-care laws in certain states in the U.S., beginning in 2022 we provide travel benefits to facilitate access to adequate resources,” the bank wrote in a brief for an upcoming shareholder meeting.
An employee described as in the know said that means the corporation will foot the bill for airline tickets and hotel stay for their employees who choose abortion for their children.”

If each of us takes a stand in small ways, we can change this culture of death! Cancel your Citi Cards.

I didn’t apply for a credit card and CBNA/THD

Thank you
Citibank issues Costco Credit Card and Ford Service Credit Card.
What about the Costco card?
Now, they just closed my secured MasterCard that has never been used and only open for about a month. They also had the audacity to take about six weeks (what they told me) to return my $200 deposit.
Citibank just closed three of my accounts, Brand Source, Brooks Brothers, and Shell because they did an arbitrary review of my credit report and discovered I had excessive inquiries. So, despite on-time payments with one of those accounts getting paid at four times the minimum and another getting paid off every month, they closed all of my accounts solely (and I’m being honest here) because of inquiries. This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.
I’ve been applying for many of these cards left and right (mostly with Comenity)and getting approved. Now, this sets me back by increasing my debt ratio ($3700 less credit and I still have the balances with two of the cards with one of those being a major no-interest promotional purchase).
I’m not sure why Citibank thinks pulling a stunt like this and p!ssing off a customer continues to give me an incentive to make payments. I already threatened I’d stop making payments if they didn’t reopen the accounts, and it didn’t work. Now, I have a call into my attorney to see if there is any legal recourse against them.
The attorney said I have no recourse. Citibank sucks. Will never do business with them again.
Meanwhile, I applied for more accounts through Comenity and Synchrony Banks and made up the difference.
Stop acting like a Karen, there is no legal recourse you can take since you agreed to their terms when you accepted their loans. Synchrony shut down all of my card like 10,000 plus, I’m pissed but they are not obligated to extend or keep credit lines open even with excellent payment history. However I will never use them for anything going forward and will not recommend them to my colleagues.
Hi, I just learned something / have a DP about product changes with Citi store cards and credit line increases and wanted to share – I have a Best Buy store card and asked if it was possible to upgrade from that to a regular CC or another store card, and this was the response by the CSR (via chat)
Re: upgrading/switching product
“Unfortunately, we are not able to change your card type. As the application is a three in one process, you apply for one of the three Best Buy credit cards and are approved for one of these credit cards based on your credit worthiness.”
Re: credit line increase request
whether a hard or soft pull is used is determined “systematically” so there’s no knowing which one it will be. It sounded from here like they can’t give us a heads up on the type of pull that’ll be used (which is different from what’s stated in #7 here https://www.doctorofcredit.com/12-things-everybody-should-know-about-citi-credit-cards/)
